This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions

SUL finalization

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

@Wilfredktlr: Usernames may not begin with a lowercase letter. The software automatically capitalizes the first letter of every username. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:41, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least one month before usurpation.

Hello cyberpower, please can you Delay the date of renaming my global account until October 11, 2016? Because now I'm not ready to change my name, thank you. Mester Yassinosse (talk) 22:48, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not Cyberpower678, but I've changed the date accordingly. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 00:41, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @cyberpower, K6ka, thank you for the delay.
I'm waiting naw for renaming my account, thanks. Mester Yassinosse (talk)20:31, 11 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you make it a bit more detailed? Tell them what you're requesting.—cyberpower ChatHello! 01:21, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Cordialement. FLRBot (talk) 01:48, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Requesting user and user making request does not match.—cyberpower ChatHello! 01:22, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what this means....—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arokisky (talk)
An IP tried to change request your username to be changed. For security reasons, we normally decline those requests unless they can establish that the user has given permission to be renamed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cyberpower678 (talk) 01:33, 13 September 2016‎ (UTC)[reply]

I tried to change it earlier today in another sub, but they told me to place a request here instead. Is this what you're referring to? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arokisky (talk) 04:44, 13 September 2016‎ (UTC)[reply]

@Arokisky: I am taking time out of my busy work schedule to send you this message. The reason why we initially declined your request on this page is because you filed it while you were logged out. All requests must be made while you are logged in. It is a security issue, not one of inconvenience. Since you filed it while you were logged out we could not tell if you were the one who actually filed it.
Secondly, you must notify the target user on their home wiki about the usurpation. The target user's home wiki, in this case, is en.wikipedia.org. Go to their talk page there and paste {{subst:Usurpation requested}} ~~~~ onto the page. After that we must wait one month before we can do the actual renaming.

Shirxd@global

@Shirxd: Are you trying to usurp this username? If so, please notify the target user on their home wiki about this request and move it into the correct section. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:12, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: No, I just want the username in any other wiki except the Hebrew one to be in English. A matter of visability and convenience. Shirxd (talk) 21:18, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: Sorry, that's not possible, as renames are now global, meaning they take place on all Wikimedia wikis. It is not possible for a global account to have a local account of a different username, if that is what you were requesting.
If you own the account "שיר", then you may simply use that to edit that one wiki specifically (Depending on your local wiki's policy on using multiple accounts, you may or may not be allowed to do this; you will usually need to declare that you operate both accounts). You can also change your signature on that one wiki, which will not affect your username, but will affect your displayed name when editing talk pages. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:24, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if so (and I'm late for Selichot), I'd like to change the name globally. The name "שיר" is not taken. Shirxd (talk) 21:29, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: Sorry, I'm afraid "שיר" is taken, see sulutil:שיר; unless I'm seeing the characters incorrectly, it's the same name that you were trying to be renamed to. It has one edit on the Hebrew Wikipedia. That's why I asked initially. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:32, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka:, thanks for notifying me. If so, I would like to usurp the username שיר. should i move the discussion to the right section? Shirxd (talk) 22:46, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: I've moved it for you. It looks like we can usurp this username. Please notify the target username on their home wiki talk page about this request, and allow up to a month for a response from them. If they consent, or if they don't say anything after the one-month grace period, we can complete your request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:50, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I've left a massege in the userws talk page. If there is no answer (what probably will happen), should I just leave a massege right here? Shirxd (talk) 23:04, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Shirxd: If there is no answer after a month, a global renamer who is available will process your request when they see it. That being said, this request is  On hold until November 1, 2016. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 23:27, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why wait a month? When this username has been inactive since it was created (3 years ago) -- ¤ Omid talk 13:22, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Omid.koli: Per policy. We wait one month after the target user has been notified, so they have a chance to respond to the request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:42, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@K6ka: I contacted the user on 12:37, 21 September 2016, about the situation. So the one month should be counted from that date not October 5, 2016.
-- ¤ Omid talk 20:44, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, didn't see that you had responded (also your ping didn't go through). Changed from November 5 to October 21. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:48, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@AndreAnto: Please notify the target user on their home wiki about this request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:38, 8 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
