Royal Ascot Day 3: Three horses to follow with proven course records

There are many factors to consider when trying to pick out a winner and previous course form is an important one. There’s often a danger of overcomplicating matters at the major Festivals but it’s important to keep things simple. With that in mind, we’ve picked out three horses with proven track records to consider on Day 3 of Royal Ascot. 3.45 Ascot

Diamond Rain is yet to taste defeat in her very short career so far and she was victorious here on debut last month. That success came over a mile which is clearly an inadequate trip for her, which means you can mark that performance up. Charlie Appleby’s filly bolted up when upped to 1m2f at Newbury last time out and 1m4f will be right up her street on that evidence.

4.25 Ascot

Coltrane has finished in the first two in all but one of his six starts at Ascot, which includes three victories. The most recent of those came last time out and he narrowly got the better of Caius Chorister. Andrew Balding’s gelding also has a fair record on good to firm ground, which should serve him well here. Narrowly denied in this race last year, he has to have a big chance once again.

6.15 Ascot

Fresh usually saves his best for Ascot and all three of his turf wins have come here. He kept on well when fifth in the Wokingham off a 9lb higher mark last year and 7f appears to be his trip. There were signs of a return to form at Haydock when last seen and a huge run could be on the cards.
