A record number of African refugees made the perilous journey across the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea in 2011.
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) says despite increased insecurity in Yemen, 103,000 people—mostly Ethiopians and Somalis—risked their lives in the crossing.
This represents a 100 per cent increase over 2010 figures.
