Today at the 🇪🇺-🇺🇸 Ministerial Meeting, President Hamran briefed ministers on Eurojust’s crucial work to effectively combat organised crime & drug trafficking. Eurojust is uniquely situated to bring key judicial players together, share expertise, and address legal challenges that arise during complex, cross-border cases. 📍 At the meeting, President Hamran also expressed his strong support for the European Judicial Organised Crime Network, which will meet for the first time at Eurojust in September.

⚠️ Combatting high-level corruption is a Eurojust priority.   📈 In 2023, we supported 350+ corruption cases – a nearly 30% increase from the previous year.   This experience gives us valuable insights into the skills, resources and strategies needed to detect advanced forms of corruption.   Today at #IACC2024 in Vilnius, Vice President Škrlec attended the high-level meeting of law enforcement & anticorruption authorities to reaffirm our commitment to fighting corruption and exchange best practices.

🚨 Major takedown of critical online infrastructure to disrupt terrorist communications & propaganda. 🌐 The large-scale operation took down servers that supported communication channels linked to the Islamic State. These were used to disseminate worldwide propaganda & messages which could incite terrorism in at least 30 languages. 💶 Eurojust supports authorities in dismantling EUR 113 million fraudulent investment scheme. 🔺 The pyramid scheme focused on the leasing of cryptocurrency products, such as investments in server storage or subleasing of crypto exchange machines. 🎯 The suspects targeted thousands of victims, promising returns of 70% before tax to those joining the scheme. However, investigations by German authorities showed that these promises would have been impossible to keep, and most of the revenue from earlier investors came from more recent ones. Eurojust hosted two coordination meetings to exchange information & evidence with the authorities involved, as well as a joint investigation team. Europol supported the operation as well. 📢 Just published: new report on the use of encrypted communications in criminal investigations. The report gives an overview of the use of encrypted communication tools, such as #EncroChat and #SkyECC by criminal networks. It also contains an analysis of encryption from a legal, technical, policy and research point of view. This includes an elaborate analysis of the recent ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union of 30 April on encrypted communications. The report, from the EU Innovation Hub, stresses the balance that needs to be struck between securing private communications and fundamental rights, while enabling investigations and prosecutions to combat organised crime and terrorism.
