The EITI is the global standard for the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources.
Om oss
We believe that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens. Our mission is to promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and provide the data to inform greater transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. By becoming members of the EITI, 55 countries have committed to disclose information along the extractive industry value chain – from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through the government and how they benefit the public. Through participation in the EITI, countries agree to a common set of rules governing what has to be disclosed and when – the EITI Standard. In each country that has joined the EITI, a multi-stakeholder group, composed of government, companies and civil society supports implementation of the EITI Standard.

Our recent visit to #Chile 🇨🇱 focused on advancing its #EITI candidature. EITI’s Francisco Paris provided support to CochilcoChile Cochilco, the key government agency leading the application process, to advance the candidature, held consultations with government agencies on the scoping note and engaged with industry and civil society actors to ensure broad participation in the process. Special thanks to all stakeholders involved, including the Inter-American Development Bank and the EU Delegation, for their continued collaboration. With continued progress and broad commitment, Chile is moving closer to submitting its candidature, paving the way for greater #transparency and accountability in extractives.

Many thanks to the 40+ participants who joined us for a virtual workshop on using the EITI to enhance public debate in the Latin America and the Caribbean region, with contributions from #Argentina, #Colombia, #DominicanRepublic, #Ecuador, #Guyana, #Mexico, #Peru, #Suriname, and #TrinidadandTobago. Reps from government and civil society highlighted innovative solutions to strengthen public engagement on natural resource management issues, as well as common challenges such as information gaps, institutional barriers and meeting audience needs. Strategies to tackle these include: 🔍 Targeted communication: Tailoring messages for difference audiences and staying attuned to issues that matter to them. 🎙️ Community engagement: Tapping into existing channels like local radio, social media and local town halls to reach communities affected by extractive activities. 📊 Data accessibility: Simplifying complex information and developing user-friendly platforms, dashboards and materials to visualise EITI data. 🤝 Partnerships: Collaborating with local organisations, media and institutions to amplify key messages. This is the first of five sessions dedicated to enhancing public debate in the region. Learn more about our monthly sessions 👉 https://lnkd.in/dzjxj-Bz

Is "green" really clean? The #renewables sector faces governance and #corruption risks that, if overlooked, could undermine a just and green #energytransition. Experience from the EITI offers valuable lessons from the extractive industries, offering renewable energy companies strategies to address these shared risks. A new working paper from the Basel Institute on Governance, co-authored by EITI’s Mark Robinson and Maja de Vibe from Statkraft, examines the specific risks in the renewables value chain and how #transparency and accountable governance can mitigate them. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e95Ck4jq

This new blog post by Open Ownership's Phoebe Williams, explores how #beneficialownership data can strengthen due diligence in licensing processes of mining, oil and gas projects. Over the past year, the #OpeningExtractives programme, jointly implemented by Open Ownership and the EITI, has worked with regulators in #Armenia 🇦🇲, #Ghana 🇬🇭 and #Zambia 🇿🇲 to integrate beneficial ownership information into key decision-making processes in the awarding, holding, transferring and renewing of extractive licences and contracts. The goal is to use these lessons to support better governance in extractives and other sectors, and to promote #transparency in the #energytransition. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/dRUS5PGk
