The EITI is the global standard for the good governance of oil, gas and mineral resources.
Om oss
We believe that a country’s natural resources belong to its citizens. Our mission is to promote understanding of natural resource management, strengthen public and corporate governance and provide the data to inform greater transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. By becoming members of the EITI, 55 countries have committed to disclose information along the extractive industry value chain – from how extraction rights are awarded, to how revenues make their way through the government and how they benefit the public. Through participation in the EITI, countries agree to a common set of rules governing what has to be disclosed and when – the EITI Standard. In each country that has joined the EITI, a multi-stakeholder group, composed of government, companies and civil society supports implementation of the EITI Standard.

🌍 This week, EITI Executive Director Mark Robinson is participating in a United Nations high-level panel on critical #energytransition minerals, building on last month's discussions. The panel, convened by #UN Secretary-General António Guterres, continues to develop voluntary principles guiding the energy transition. These principles present a unique opportunity to create a shared vision for the #mining sector, one that delivers real benefits and avoids past mistakes. 📋 This time, the focus is on agreeing upon a small set of actionable recommendations that will accompany the principles. These recommendations include the integration of international best practices, including the EITI Standard, and the creation of spaces for peer exchange and dialogue between mineral-producing countries. This approach is vital to ensuring that the mining sector contributes to energy transition goals in a way that benefits all stakeholders, particularly those in mineral-rich countries. 💡 Drawing on the EITI's experience, Mark will highlight how these recommendations can drive tangible change, emphasising transparent and fair practices across the mineral value chain. 🌍 Are EITI-Supporting Companies Meeting Expectations? The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) relies on the strength of its three pillars: governments, companies, and civil society. Like a three-legged stool, if one pillar breaks, the whole platform risks collapse. EITI-supporting companies play a crucial role in promoting transparency and good governance in the extractive sector. The latest 2023 EITI Standard assessment highlights how these companies measure up against nine key expectations, from anti-corruption policies to gender diversity. Our latest insight dives into how well EITI-supporting companies are meeting these expectations and what more can be done to ensure transparency and accountability in the sector. Check out the full piece to learn more about the progress, the gaps, and what’s needed for greater change. 💡 #EITI #transparency #governance #extractivesector #accountability #beneficialownership #anticorruption

PH-EITI advocates for beneficial ownership transparency with industry stakeholders The Philippine Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PH-EITI) convened a forum on beneficial ownership (BO) transparency at the Department of Finance (DOF) on August 7, 2024. Titled "Beneficial Ownership Forum: Disclosure Requirements in the Philippines," the event aimed to boost awareness and gather feedback to refine BO transparency practices within the mining, oil, and gas industries. The forum featured insights from experts at Open Ownership (OO), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and EITI International, focusing on the implications and innovative approaches to BO transparency. PH-EITI also provided an update on the implementation status of BO transparency in the Philippines, particularly on the extractives sector. Atty. Emily Manuel, OO's Regional Manager for Asia Pacific, illustrated the business case for BO disclosure, citing international best practices and examples from the United States, Slovakia, and Ukraine. She emphasized the crucial role of BO transparency in combating corruption and fostering responsible business conduct. Atty. Daniel Luis P. Macalino from the SEC's Anti-Money Laundering Division elaborated on the SEC’s BO reporting process in the Philippines, explaining the distinction between legal and beneficial ownership with practical examples. Sarah Hayton, Country Manager at the EITI International, discussed the 2023 EITI Standard and its application across the extractive industries, highlighting its role in creating a clean and fair operating and investment climate. Nicole Hilario, PH-EITI’s Deputy Coordinator for Data Management and Reporting, reviewed the progress in PH-EITI's BO reporting since 2016, outlining the reporting process, requirements, and recent updates. She expressed gratitude to companies that have fully complied with the PH-EITI's beneficial ownership disclosure requirements. The forum was attended by 81 participants, including 61 industry representatives from 38 companies, reflecting a strong commitment to enhancing transparency in the Philippines' extractive sector.
