The paper presents the analysis of different problems faced by the system of higher education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it studies the possibilities of transferring the educational process into electronic information and educational environment and estimates its positive and negative impact produced on all actors involved. The article identifies the role of university teaching staff in this process as a key one and determines a range of factors ensuring the effectiveness of their professional activity while distance teaching.
The quality of academic performance in the University depends on many factors, and one
of the most important factors is the level of academic staff professionalism. In the article an attempt is made to reveal extrinsic and intrinsic motives which develop foreign language teachers’ professionalism and to define the core motives for their professional performance.

The article studies the problems that face high school lecturers in the course of professional pedagogical communication, it reflects the complexity of the relationship between lecturers and their colleagues, administration, students, and suggests possible options for settling conflicts that arise. Particular attention is paid to the pedagogical communication difficulties specific to foreign language teachers. In addition to the analytical review of research on pedagogical communication, the author describes the results of the experiment conducted among students and graduates of universities in Novosibirsk, during which the participants tried to create a model of the «ideal teacher of foreign languages», based on their own experience of communication with the teaching staff of the educational institution.
Methodology of carrying out research: the comparative analysis of Russian and foreign documents regulating the process of administrative and reciprocal visiting classes.
Conclusions / results: The article presents the detailed analysis of such terms as ''administrative visiting classes'' and ''reciprocal visiting classes'', and it defines aims and goals set by the actors of the process. The comparative analysis of documents regulating the process of administrative and reciprocal visiting classes as well as thorough analysis of Russian and foreign experience in class visiting implementation highlighted both organizational and psychological problems. The urgent solving of the problems is to ensure the high quality of subject teaching and to maintain the professional development of the university staff.
Цель исследования: сравнить процесс посещения/взаимопосещения занятий в российских и зарубежных вузах.
Методология проведения исследования: компаративный анализ российских и зарубежных документов, регламентирующих посещение занятий преподавателей вузов.
Выводы / результаты: В статье проводится детальный анализ таких понятий, как «посещение занятий» и «взаимопосещение занятий», а также определяются цели, которые ставят перед собой участники процесса. Сравнительный анализ внутривузовзской документации, наряду с зарубежным и российским опытом внедрения посещений и взаимопосещений занятий обозначил ряд организационных и психологических проблем, требующих решения для оптимизации процесса повышения качества преподавания предметов в вузах, а так же профессионального развития профессорско-преподавательского состава.
The study proves that «Peer Coaching» is one of the most successful high school teaching staff development technology that has as its purpose to advance the professionalism of teachers by training them to promote frequent, informal, helpful observations by one professional educator to another, to give necessary rationale feedback and coach each other. The article shows that this is the simple, nonthreatening structure designed for peers to help each other to recognize their professional needs, improve instruction, learning situations or other teachers' professional activity including even scientific research. «Peer Coaching» technology promotes not just the culture of collegiality among high school teaching staff, it also offers many opportunities for their own professional development, which will do much to improve the quality of university education, restore friendly classroom environment and contribute to their own professional success.
