Slackers, beware: If you’re an undergraduate student at UNLV and want to attend the third and final presidential debate being held on the school’s campus on Wednesday night, you must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
That’s right, there’s apparently a thing as being too dumb for politics.
While there was no such requirement for the first debates at Washington College in St. Louis and Hofstra College on New York’s Lengthy Island, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas states in their ticket lottery rules that students must be hitting the books in order to be in the audience.
Undergraduates must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0, which is equivalent to a C grade, and graduate students are required to have a 3.0, or a B grade, according to the school.
Officials told the website Quartz that more than 3,600 of UNLV’s 28,000 students have placed their names in the lottery for a seat at the 19,522-seat Thomas & Mack Center auditorium.
Jennifer Hurtado, a senior journalism major who will be working for Fox News during the debate, said she is all for a minimum requirement.
“I think it’s a good thing because students who work hard [in class] deserve to attend big, historic campus events like this,” she told Quartz. “I’d be worried if they were asking for 3.0 [for undergraduates]—2.0 is average and it shows the work they’re doing.”
