Rain Cancels Brooklyn's 18th Avenue Columbus Day Parade

The 41st annual Columbus Day celebration in Bath Beach was canceled as New York City geared up for another rainy weekend.

BATH BEACH, NY — Brooklyn's Columbus Day Parade will not go on as planned Saturday as the borough expects more rain.

"Unfortunately, due to the weather forecast tomorrow, the scheduled 18th Ave Columbus Day Parade has been canceled," City Council Member Justin Brannan said in a tweet.

Mass will still continue as planned at 10:30 a.m. at St. Athanasius Church on Bay Parkway between 61st and 62nd streets. A reception will follow Saturday's mass, Brannan said.

The 41st annual celebration was initially scheduled to kick off on 18th Avenue near Benson Avenue. Manhattan's Columbus Day Parade was still scheduled for Monday on Fifth Avenue and 44th Street.

The city was expected to see up to 2 inches of heavy rain Saturday, with flash flood warnings in place starting Friday.

There was a 50 percent chance of rain Friday, with that likelihood increasing into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
