Llarissa Pye was so determined she wasn't going to miss her dad's wedding, she arrived an entire year early!

Pye was on a plane headed from Lanzarote, where she currently resides, to her U.K. hometown of Cheshire to attend her father's wedding when she realized she was making just a tad bit early.

While she has lived 1,700 miles away from her U.K.-based family in Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, for nine years, Pye was delighted to learn in a phone call in May that her father and his partner had set their wedding date.

"My dad must have said, 'It's on my birthday next year,' " the 29-year-old said, per SWNS. "But I heard 'We're sorry it's short notice, we understand if you can't make it.' "

Thinking that he meant June 2, 2024, Pye spent £200 on a flight home and asked coworkers to cover her shifts at a bike rental shop at the last minute.

On May 31, she woke up delighted to head home for her father's big day. "I'd sent my flights through but they hadn't seen it said 2024," she said.

Pye sent texts to her family that she was at the airport before they realized her mistake. By then she had turned her phone on airplane mode for the trip and didn't realize the major mix-up until the plane was about to take off.

"I called my dad and he said, 'Llarissa, the wedding isn't until next year'. We were just laughing," she said.

She had no choice but to take the four-hour trip to England, and turn it into a mini-vacation. Pye even took the opportunity to try on bridesmaid dresses while she was home.

"I guess a year is short notice for my dad," she said, adding that she's usually organized, but, "I've never been a year early."

Pye eventually caught a £30 flight back to Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote and will attempt the voyage again next year in time to make the wedding on its actual date — June 2, 2025.
