Jude Law Says He 'Loves the Idea' of Making a Sequel to The Holiday: 'Why Not?'

The actor, 51, recently told E! News that he "love(s) the idea" of a potential follow-up to his 2006 ensemble romantic comedy, which was written and directed by Nancy Meyers and costarred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jack Black.

And while Law told E! News that fans would "have to ask" Meyers, 74, about getting the movie made, when it comes to his own involvement, he added, "Why not?"

"I think Graham still has cardigans and glasses, and reads," he joked of where his character would be today. "He's probably worried sick about the girls, right? [His] daughters will be 28, 29."

In The Holiday, heartbroken movie-trailer producer Amanda (Diaz, 51) offers up her Los Angeles mansion in order to get away for the holidays, before similarly downtrodden columnist Iris (Winslet, 48) answers, swapping her English country cottage.

During their visits, Amanda falls for Iris' widower brother Graham (Law), a book editor, while Iris hits it off with film composer Miles (Black, 54), a friend of Amanda's ex.

"People look at Nancy's movies as a statement, in a way," Diaz told Vulture about the film in 2020. "It's set in the real world, but it's like, Who's getting on first class, and flying, and taking this cute little cottage in the middle of England? Who gets to do that? You always wish that was you."

"When people watch The Holiday, it's just so aspirational," she continued. "They're like, 'One day, I'll be able to do that.' It's almost like a modern-day Prince Charming, but not a helpless princess. It's more like the fully capable princess who could have whatever she wants, but she can't have it until she breaks open her heart and is vulnerable, and lets in the right man."

"And not just Prince Charming, but the guy who's actually capable of showing up in all the ways she needs him to," Diaz added.

Despite buzz about a second film, Meyers shut down rumors of a sequel in December 2022, much to the dismay of The Holiday fans everywhere.

"So many DM's about this — sorry but it's not true. ❤️," wrote Meyers on Instagram alongside a screen grab from an article reporting that a sequel was getting made with the original main cast all returning.

Winslet also shut down the rumor to PEOPLE, saying, "I read something about that, but it's the first I've heard of it."

"I promise you, not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that," the actress added. "Hand on heart, that's never come up."
