Katherine Schwarzenegger Throws Shade at the Met Gala

“When the Met Gala was chic and classy,” the author wrote over a photo of her mother attending the event in 2001

Katherine Schwarzenegger doesn’t seem to be a fan of some of the more recent Met Gala looks.

In a since-expired Instagram Stories post, the New York Times best-selling author, 34, expressed her opinion on how times have changed.

Following the annual event on Monday, May 6, Schwarzenegger reshared a photo that her mother Maria Shriver posted in an Instagram carousel. The upload was a recap from a year that Shriver attended the gala.

“When the Met Gala was chic and classy,” Schwarzenegger added above the picture.

“It’s the first Monday in May and the Met Gala is underway! Things were a little more low key when I attended back in 2001, but I thought I would share some photos from that wonderful night,” Shriver, 68, began in her caption.

For the year she attended, the former First Lady of California wore a lavender boat neck gown with a matching sheer shawl.

“Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I got to attend with both my parents, as well as my cousin, Caroline. What do you think: would we rock the red carpet in these same looks tonight? #metgalaflashback,” Shriver concluded.

The Met Gala was founded in 1948, per WWD, to fundraise for the Costume Institute and mark the opening of its annual exhibit. According to CNN, the first time the event saw a theme was in 1973 for “The World of Balenciaga” — a nod to designer Cristóbal Balenciaga.

Monday’s theme followed the dress code, "A Garden in Time," which was based on the Costume Institute exhibit's theme "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."

The evening's co-chairs were Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny. More than 160 celebrities walked the red carpet.

Zendaya, 27, stunned in a custom Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano. She also changed into another ensemble — an off-the-shoulder black gown with a long train and fresh floral headpiece.

Other notable looks of the evening included Doja Cat, who arrived in an oversized white T-shirt with the illusion of it being soaked and see-through thanks to hair gel.

"I know that people were going to do flowers, so my flower of choice was the most-used flower and it's cotton, and so I wanted to do a white T-shirt because a white T-shirt is timeless and felt very poetic and I knew it wasn't really going to blend in. I really don't like to blend in,” the Grammy winner, 28, told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.
