Since the World Humanitarian Summit, discussions on localisation have sparked both optimism and skepticism. Despite growing commitments, decisions remain largely dominated by international actors, leaving local voices underrepresented. This paper explores barriers to localisation from a Southern perspective, emphasising the need for a decolonial approach. Localisation must not replicate colonial power dynamics but rather dismantle them, challenging long-held ‘saviour’ vs ‘aid recipient’ mindsets. For true progress, Southern actors must assert their autonomy and lead the charge for a more equitable humanitarian sector. Pakistan’s Umerkot district is one of the worst drought-affected regions in the Sindh province and many people are forced to migrate for work. Displacement is widespread and education and health services are lacking.  Girls are less likely to be in school and women and children lack access to vital child and maternal health services. We support Community World Service Asia to improve education in Pakistan, by increasing attendance and retention rates and educating the community on the importance of education for girls. And it’s working. 🚨Flood Relief Update🚨 CWSA organised a medical camp in the flood-affected village of Qazi M. Rafiqque Laghari, Jhuddo, Mirpurkhas District, providing health care to 105 flood affected communities. The team also held health & hygiene awareness sessions for men & women. #PakistanFloods #FloodRelief

3rd Quarterly Meeting of the Year | Sphere Focal Points Meeting Today, we had an insightful session with 15 participants, led by the Disaster Risk Reduction Network Philippines (DRRNetPhils). The session focused on sharing an overview of Sphere county focal points' activities and case stories on applying Sphere standards during emergencies. The DRRNetPhils team emphasised on the importance of effective local representation of international law, empowering communities through Sphere standards, and implementing rights-based and community-based approaches. Sphere's Secretariat team shared exciting updates and new initiatives, including a case study authoring tool designed to enhance the accessibility and relevance of Sphere standards globally. Key takeaways include the introduction of sustainable practices like reducing plastic use in food distributions and ensuring aid reaches often-overlooked populations, including PWDs and those in geographically isolated areas. Heavy rains have led to widespread flooding, landslides, and significant infrastructure damage in Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh. Unusually high temperatures have exacerbated the situation, accelerating snowmelt in regions like upper KP, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as of September 1, the country has experienced above-average rainfall and a total of 306 people have lost their lives, including 155 children. #PakistanFloods #Climatecrisis #Humanitarian https://lnkd.in/d4NmGt4B

🚨Situation Alert 🚨 Monsoon rains have brought devastating floods to rural areas of Sindh, once again, severely impacting communities still reeling from the 2022 disaster. In Khairpur, the floods have caused extensive damage to houses, crops and livelihoods, undermining the gradual recovery from the last floods. Similarly, Mirpurkhas has been hit hard, with reports indicating over 800 homes partially damaged and completely destroyed. These losses come at a time when many families are still grappling with the aftermath of the 2022 floods. The agricultural and livestock sectors, crucial to the local economy, have been especially hard-hit. In Umerkot and Tharparkar, the floods have led to the death of 257 livestock, severely impacting those who rely on these animals for their livelihoods. CWSA's emergency teams are providing immediate healthcare and health education through its mobile health units and free medical camps in these areas. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this ongoing crisis, and we must come together to offer our support and solidarity in these challenging times. #PakistanFloods #FloodRelief #DisasterRecovery
