Dr. Azizur Rahman is the Research Head/CEO and President of the Center for Climate Change Research (CCCR), University of Toronto (ONRamp at UTE), and President of Environmental Solutions, under the entrepreneurship program of ICUBE, University of Toronto at Mississauga. He pursues a broad range of research interests that include environment and climate change, freshwater/marine biology, drug discovery, biomineralization, environmental microbiology, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, and protein biochemistry. He is also fascinated with understanding the biological development of freshwater microorganisms and their functional properties in indoor ecosystems and agricultural applications. He was awarded his Ph.D. (with Presidential Award) in Marine and Environmental Sciences from the University of Ryukyus, Japan. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles. His interdisciplinary research has been recognized by over 16 major national and international awards, including several best paper awards and a gold medal. He is a recipient of the Presidential Honorary Award for Scientists, the highest honor given by the University of Ryukyus in Japan for outstanding novel research findings. He was also a Global Peer Review Award recipient in 2019. In addition to his research work with the Center for Climate Change Research, he teaches and conducts research in Aquatic Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto (since January 2013).
