Xiayuan Wu earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Biocatalysis in 2014 from the College of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Nanjing Tech University, and is currently an associate professor at the same college. From March 2016 to March 2018, she was a visiting scholar at the School of Natural and Built Environments, University of South Australia, where she focused on applied basic research in environmental microbiology related to bioelectrochemistry and waste resource utilization. With a focus on environmental microbiology, her main research areas include waste resource utilization, bioelectrochemical applications, antibiotic and resistance gene pollution control, heavy metal wastewater treatment and recycling, microplastic degradation, microbial deodorization, methane biosynthesis, and nanomaterial biosynthesis.
