Prof. Claudia Graiff received a degree in Chemistry from the University of Parma and a PhD in 1998 from the same University, working on the synthesis and characterization of organometallic compounds. In 1995–1999, she worked at the University of Strasbourg with Prof. Pierre Braunstein and at the Sevilla University with Prof. Ernesto Carmona to improve her knowledge in synthesis and methodologies in inorganic synthesis and spectroscopic characterization. From 2006, she has been Associate Professor in Chemistry at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Parma. In 2004, she received the Bonati "Junior" prize for young researchers. The research activity of Prof. Graiff has been focused on different areas; in particular: (1) From 1994 till 2004, she studied the chalcogen transfer reactions from selenido tertiary phosphanes to carbonyl metal clusters; (2) more recently, she has been collaborating in the study of new alcali-activated materials to be used in plaster and mortar for sustainable building and construction; (3) she is currently involved in the production and characterization of nanostructured functional materials, mainly obtained by sol-gel methods and used for the protection of lignocellulosic and stone artifacts.
