Prof. Dr. Klaus Liefeith. Engineer. He obtained his diploma 1982 at the Friedrich-Schiller-University (FSU) Jena in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science. PhD on determination of constitutive equations by means of wave propagation in viscoelastic materials from FSU Jena in 1987. Since 1992, he is the Head of Department of Biomaterials at Institute of Bioprocessing und Analytical Measurement Techniques (iba) and since 2009 Professor for Biofunctional Surfaces and Structures at Technical University of Ilmenau. With more than 30 years experience in biomaterials science and biomechanics he is a renowned senior scientist in the fields of biointerface engineering, tissue- and matrix engineering as well as associated computation strategies in numerical modeling and simulation. More than 250 peer reviewed publications and 12 patents. He is active as a member of the expert groups for numerous funding organizations, e.g., Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF), European Commission, German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF), Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and Humboldt Foundation.
