Prof. Vassilios S. Verykios

Short Biography

Vassilios S. Verykios is the Vice Rector of Student Welfare and a Professor at the School of Science and Technology at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) in Greece, specializing in Data Management. He ranks among the top 2% of scientists worldwide according to Elsevier and is listed among the top Greek scientists in Computer Science by Research.com. He graduated from the University of Patras-Greece in 1992 and earned his Master’s (1997) and Ph.D. (1999) degrees from Purdue University in Indianna-USA. He has held faculty positions at Drexel University in Pennsylvania-USA and the University of Thessaly-Greece, before joining HOU, where he now serves as a full Professor. At HOU, he directs the Big Data Analytics and Anonymization Lab, coordinates several postgraduate programs, and was instrumental in founding the Data Science and Machine Learning (DAMA) program. He has served on the Board of Directors at the Computer Technology Institute and Publications "Diophantus." With over 250 publications and more than 11,750 citations, his research focuses on Big Data Analytics, Data Privacy, and Security.
