Short Biography

Loreto Gesualdo, Ordinary of Nephrology, spent about five years in American Universities (Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and the University of Pittsburgh) and has 20 years of Italian university experience, first at the University of Foggia, where he held numerous roles (Compote of the Internal Evaluation Unit, Delegate for Research, President of the D.A.Re. Technological District and the Center for Technological Competence Ce.R.FRAlogy-DIAN) and later at the University of Bari (President of the School of Medicine). It is also the Regional Coordinator of Organ Transplants. He has led his research group since 1990, obtaining regional, national, and European funding for several million euros, has recruited and trained numerous young researchers, and, as director of the School of Specialization, many specialties, whose training is appreciated in all Italian nephrological structures and also abroad. He is among the Top Italian Scientists in the Clinical Sciences macroarea, with an H-index of 90 and about 31,000 citations. He was President of the Italian Society of Nephrology, and during his presidency, he launched the campaign “Scacco matto al renegar sick: we want a world free from dialysis.” He has developed a humanitarian project in Uganda at the University of Mbarara. He is President of the Italian Federation of Medical-Scientific Societies (FISM) and Scientific Director of the IRCCS John Paul II.
