Short Biography

SMJ Mortazavi is a Professor of Medical Physics at the School of Medicine, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. He has a strong background in medical physics and specializes in the biological effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. He completed a postdoc awarded by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) at Kyoto University of Education and then joined the faculty of RUMS, Rafsanjan, where he served as Assistant/Associate Professor until 2008. He later moved to SUMS, Shiraz and served as Associate/Full Professor. He has also been a Visiting Scientist at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia (2017-2018) and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee (2018). Mortazavi has authored over 300 Scopus-indexed papers in well-known peer-reviewed journals, covering areas such as low dose radiation, radiation protection, radiation shielding, natural radiation, space radiation/medicine, and non-ionizing radiation. His research focuses on the issue of space radiation, particularly biological protection of astronauts against high levels of space radiation in deep space missions, such as future manned journeys to Mars. He is also a member of the editorial boards of well-known journals such as the International Journal of Low Radiation (IJLR), Radiology of Infectious Diseases, and International Journal of Radiation Research (IJRR).
