Prof. Dr. Vagner Fonseca works as a bioinformatician in viral evolution and data scientist. He has a doctorate in Medicine, with a specialization in Virology from the University of Kwazulu-Natal, a doctorate in Bioinformatics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), a master's degree in Science from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from the State University of Bahia (UNEB). He has experience in developing bioinformatics systems for the genomic assembly and classification of viruses. He is currently working on genomic surveillance of Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, HIV, Yellow Fever Virus, West Nile Virus SARS-CoV-2 and Rift Valley Fever Virus. His main skills are Bioinformatics Software Development, Databases, Big Data, Pipeline Development, Next-Generation Sequence Data Management and Analysis, Genomic Epidemiology, Phylogenetics, Phylogeography, Transmission Clusters, Recombination Analysis and Cloud Computing and High Performance for Data Intensive Projects. Furthermore, he has been operating in the ICT market since 2004 with Systems Analysis and Development, Project Management and Infrastructure Projects. He has experience in large and highly complex projects.
