Information

Prof. Simona MRAKIC-SPOSTA is a Researcher at the Institute of Clinical Physiology, Italian National Research Council, with a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine. From 2017, she is a contract Professor in “Human Anatomy and Histology” in Roma. She is qualified as an Associate Professor N6/01. She is the Secretary of the Italian Society of Mountain Medicine, SIMeM from October 2017. In 2016 and 2022, she won the prize for the Best Oral Communication from the Società Italiana Medicina di Montagna, and in 2022, the prize for Best Poster and Oral Communication from the Società Italiana Medicina Subacquea. Simona's research fields include oxidative stress, inflammation, and organ damage in physiological/pathological conditions and/or during/after dietary supplementation or specific diet. Part of her research has focused on the physiological adaptation of the whole body to extreme/environmental conditions (high altitude, hypobaric and normobaric hypoxia, hyperoxia) with or without adaptation to exercise. She also focuses on muscle atrophy/the aging process/neurodegeneration. She is also interested in the assessment of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production and antioxidant capacity in biological samples (blood/saliva/urine/cell/tissues: in vivo and in vitro by humans and animals) by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance. She continues to study the effects of non-invasive cortical stimulation in neurological/neurodegenerative disorders.
