Information

Professor Diego A. Alonso (Organic Chemistry Department & Organic Synthesis Institute) studied chemistry at the University of Alicante (UA), receiving his undergraduate degree in 1992 and Ph.D. in 1997 under the direction of Professor Carmen Nájera. After undertaking a postdoctoral position with Professor Pher G. Andersson at Uppsala University (1997-1999) working on asymmetric catalysis, he moved back to Alicante University as a senior scientist (1999) and Ramón y Cajal researcher (2001). In 2003, he began his independent career as associate professor at Alicante University, where he served as department chair from 2013 to 2017. Professor Alonso has been visiting scientist at Groningen University (The Netherlands) with Nobel Laureate Professor Ben L. Feringa (2005) and at The Sripps Research Institute (San Diego, US) with Professor Carlos F. Barbas, III (2007). He is editor of the journals Open Chemistry and Molecules (Organometallic Chemistry) and co-author of twelve chapter books and over one hundred chemistry articles in international journals (h = 41). His research interests are focused on organometallic catalysis, asymmetric organocatalysis, material sciences, carbocatalysis, green chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Diego Alonso is the director of the research group "Enantioselective Catalysis in Organic Synthesis" and a member of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry.
