My name is Alyssa Tobisch. My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a senior at Marquette, studying communication studies with a minor in psychology. I am from De Pere, WI, which is in the Green Bay area.

I wrote a piece inspired by a very difficult friendship breakup about a year ago. I struggled a lot to get to the other side of it, even after many months. One day, I was down in the dumps and decided to play around on the piano. This playing around made me think that I should definitely write this down on paper.

For the first half of the song, it took me no time at all. I literally sat down on the piano, hit record on my phone and what you hear in the beginning is what came out. For the second half of the song, more inspiration hit me about a month later. I did the same thing that I did for the first part. I sat down at the piano and then hit record on my phone. I did not have time to write down the second half until spring break, and I am excited to share it with everyone.

What piece of advice would you like to give students?

Some advice that I would give to students is to be original, be yourself in everything that you do and following your passion. If you love social media, music, or some other hobby, go for it! You never know where your passions will take you. It might even land you a job!

What is your favorite Marquette memory?

My favorite Marquette memory is being inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu. It is a very competitive honor society to get into. The applicant has to be in the top 15% of the class to be eligible to apply. For those who apply, only 5% get admitted from the applicant’s college. I feel very blessed that I get to be a part of it and have a greater impact on my community after I graduate.

Here is Alyssa’s song “Letting Go”
