My name is Jaiden Schueller, and I am a junior public relations and corporate communication major here at Marquette! I am from Belgium, Wisconsin just about 40 minutes north of campus.

During the Fall semester I interned remotely at IZEA Worldwide out of Orlando, FL. I was a Social Media Outreach Intern in the Influencer Partnerships department. Daily tasks included scouting influencers for brand deals and campaigns, monitoring signed influencers’ social media accounts, and constructing weekly trend reports.

This position was right up my ally as a PR major. I specifically liked vetting influencers for brand campaigns. A brand would come to IZEA in search of the perfect fit for its campaign and it was my job to work to find those perfect matches. After I pitched my ideas for content creators, it was so fun to watch contracts actually be signed and magic actually made with ideas that I suggested to the team!

During my time at IZEA, the biggest thing that surprised me were the bonds that I made virtually. I struggled with school when it was virtual and I was very apprehensive taking on a virtual internship with fear that I would not be able to succeed or form meaningful connections with my coworkers. It actually ended up being the exact opposite! IZEA spent a lot of time making sure that we were all connected and positive relationships and friendships were made. I came out of the internship with many new colleagues, connections and, honestly, friendships.

My time in the Diederich College has prepared me for this internship in numerous ways. The Diederich College encourages internships and pushes students to tackle difficult positions and work hard in the roles. Before the push to obtain experience, though, the college prepares students to do so. Prestigious classes in conjunction with the confidence that professors have in their students makes it a smooth transition from student to intern.

When looking for an internship, I recommend asking Sheena Carey any and every question that you have. Use her as a resource — she is a blessing to the Diederich college and always has great internship opportunities on hand (along with great MU alum connections!!).

My favorite Marquette memories have been National Marquette Days during my time here! The way that the Marquette community comes together is unbelievable. With another one coming up soon and one more left to be had after that, I can’t wait to come together with everyone time and time again!
