A Balanced Approach with Yair Rosenberg
On January 23, 2024 we hosted The Atlantic’s award-winning writer Yair Rosenberg at Duke. In a conversation moderated by recent Duke grad Niso Nahmiyas ’23, Rosenberg discussed antisemitism, anti-Zionism, the media, and the Israel-Hamas war.
At Duke, Rosenberg shared his own experience of learning of the October 7th Hamas terror attacks, talked about the differences and overlaps between antisemitism and anti-Zionism, interpersonal and conspiratorial varieties of antisemitism, and more.
Student leaders then had the opportunity to have dinner with Rosenberg over a thoughtful and nuanced discussion about antisemitism and the war as it relates to the college student experience. Students were lucky to also hear from Duke Professor Dan Ariely who provided insight from the field of behavioral economics about effective ways to engage in dialogue with people who disagree with you.
