Our Welcome Week is your introduction to student life in Sheffield. Packed with opportunities to meet other new students, try activities, grab freebies, and enjoy loads of fantastic nights out; your new Students’ Union is the place to be!
Our SU club, Foundry hosts some of Sheffield’s best nights out! Experience our legendary Pop Tarts, ROAR, The Tuesday Club, and Soul Jam events, plus our exclusive official Freshers parties throughout the week- accept no imitations!
If big nights out aren't your scene, we’ve got you covered. We’ve a programme of fun away from the hustle and bustle, such as film screenings, Give it a Go activities, quizzes, and even dog drawing! More details coming soon!

Our Give it a Go sessions are your chance to try out a new activity, interest or sport, so you can decide whether it’s the one for you. Try something new with no commitment and a low cost.
We love Sheffield, and here you can join hundreds of students who give back to our local community each year through our Sheffield Volunteering and Raising and Giving schemes.
That’s not forgetting the hundreds of societies and sports clubs we have ready to welcome you as a new member. It’s never too late to get involved as our events and activities continue throughout the year!

It’s normal to take time to adjust to new surroundings and people. We’re here to support you throughout your time at University, from our welcoming liberation committees, such as LGBT+, BAME, and Disabled and Dyslexic Students’ Committee, to our professional Student Advice Centre.
Our networks of students and staff will help you overcome any barriers or issues you face during your student journey. Just reach out for support when you need it

Hi I’m Tomas, your Liberation Officer, and I’m here to represent all students from liberation groups, and everyone who faces a systemic barrier to participation at the University.
Hi I’m Jephthah, your International and Community Officer. I’m here to represent and promote the views and interests of international students.
Making Positive Change
Sheffield Students’ Union is powered by you, our members. We’re called a Students’ Union because we bring together students from different countries, faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs. We’re a place where you can be your authentic self, meet others who will expand your view of the world, and make positive change on campus and in the wider world.
We have hundreds of students educating, campaigning, and lobbying for improvements to their and others lives, and we make it easy to add your voice. From attending one of our student Forums to discuss issues impacting our community, to speaking with a student representative who will champion the change you seek, we are proud to be powered by students!
We have 13 Student’ Union Officers, democratically elected by students, to lead Sheffield Students’ Union and voice your opinions.
Inside Your New SU
Our SU is right in the centre of campus, and the perfect place to meet, eat, relax, or work.
There’s different events, and activities taking place every day in our building, and we’ve loads of food and drink outlets to explore including a bar, a coffee shop, and a build your own salad/wrap outlet.
We’re big on sustainability and have a clothes ‘Swap Shop’ where you swap clothes for free, and a Zero Waste Shop where you can buy kitchen staples like pasta and beans without excess packaging.
Hi I’m Nadya, your Sustainability and Welfare Officer. Half of my role has me working with both the SU and the University on all things sustainability. The other half concerns student welfare which takes the form of housing, worker’s rights, and transport among other issues.

Whether you’re joining us for the first time or have been in the Steel City for a while, there’s always new places to discover and love.
