Surveillance.cancer.gov is the website for the Surveillance Research Program (SRP) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). NCI is the U.S. government’s principal agency for cancer research. NCI is mandated by U.S. law to disseminate information about cancer and cancer research. This website serves as an important means to achieving that mission.

Information about Cancer Statistics

This website offers free, authoritative, current information about cancer statistics. The statistics are available in several formats (e.g., reports, online and printable fact sheets, videos, interactive tools, twitter) and for a wide variety of cancer sites (e.g., pancreas). The statistics include:

• incidence—the number of newly diagnosed cases during a specific time period
• mortality—the number of deaths during a specific time period
• prevalence—new and preexisting cases for people alive on a certain date
• survival—the proportion of patients alive at some point subsequent to the diagnosis of their cancer
• lifetime risk—the probability of developing or dying of cancer
• statistics by race/ethnicity—cancer statistics by US population groups

This website also provides access to methods and tools (e.g., software) for population-based cancer statistics, which have been developed primarily to assist researchers in analyzing and reporting on cancer statistics.
