"I've never seen so much chocolate!"

Huxley Prescott posts a live news report from a hillside on the first day of spring, however as he's suggesting people come out and enjoy the sunshine, a lightning storm suddenly blows in, drenching him before moving on. Moments later, a mudslide comes down the hill, leaving Prescott and the Rubios running for their lives. Cody spots what's happening and Heatwave and Kade quickly arrive, using a foam cannon to form a barricade. Though Kade turns down Heatwave's offer of shelter, the mud soon breaks through the wall, but fortunately the rest of the team arrive, holding it back and rescuing the civilians. Back in the news room, Prescott closes his report by announcing that the rescue team is being honored by the State Emergency Response Bureau and photographed for Emergency Response Illustrated. Mayor Luskey, meanwhile, has declared the start of "Bot Appreciation Week" and is going to present the rescue team with the key to the city. The festival will also include free souvenir Rescue Bots. Heatwave is unimpressed, since the townsfolk still think they're simple robots.

"I shall call them Squishy and they shall be mine!"

At the laboratory, Doc Greene is burning the midnight fossil fuel making more souvenir Rescue Bots, until Frankie orders him to go to bed. After they leave the room, Evan and Myles enter via a pipe in the ceiling and start inserting altered programming into the 3D printer creating the mini-Bots. Frankie is wakened in the middle of the night by tiny footprints, but misses seeing the reprogrammed souvenirs roaming the house. The next day, the Rescue Bots have to stand still at the festival, though Blades complains of an itchy nose. Luskey announces that the souvenirs are available for free from the "Re-elect Mayor Luskey" booth, though the Bots are dismayed at how the small replicas are being treated by the townsfolk. The Greenes arrive with the latest batch, unaware that Evan and Myles are lurking nearby.

The Burns family is returning to the island on the Darby Ava, with Kade stuffing his face with shrimp, when the boat lurches to a stop, its propeller tangled with kelp. When Graham loses the hook overboard, Dani's forced to don her wetsuit and clear the mess manually. Cody soon spots an incoming mass of jellyfish and they have to extract Dani from the water with the propeller still fouled.

As Luskey hands out the mini-Bots, Evan and Myles activate the reprogrammed batch, and the souvenir Bots start stealing everything that isn't nailed down, including the key to the city. Huxley tries to make a report, only for a mini-Blades to steal his camera, loading it into Evan and Myles's van along with the rest of the ill-gotten goods. The Mayor attempts to give orders to the Bots fruitlessly, and the Bots discuss whether they can help without revealing their true natures. Frankie spots that the souvenirs are the ones stealing everything and while the Mayor is demanding answers, the mini-Bots begin to cause mayhem. A fire breaks out, spurring Heatwave into action when it threatens the Greenes. Frankie orders the Bots to protect everyone.

On the boat, Dani notes there seem to be more and more jellyfish and everyone realizes that Kade's shrimp is drawing the jellyfish to the boat. Chief uses a fishing line to cast the box of shrimp and lure the jellyfish away.

Evan and Myles start phase 2 of their plan. The Rescue Bots have managed to bring the fire at festival under control, but the souvenirs turn even more hostile, directly attacking them. The Burns family arrives to find the chaos and the Greenes explain what's happening. Cody spots a group of souvenirs heading away from the location. The rescue team gives chase to the bank, where the mini-Bots are breaking into the vault and making off with the money. When the team moves in, Myles sets the souvenirs to attack mode and the pair attempt to make their escape, however the team makes short work of the mini-Bots. Evan and Myles's van is soon hooked by Blades and the pair captured. Kade uses their remote to shut down the rogue mini-Bots, allowing Doc Greene to reprogram them. Soon they're helping the rescue team straighten up the festival. Mayor Luskey presents the team with the newly returned key and unveils the all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet, much to Kade's delight.

Real-world references

  • Emergency Response Illustrated is a reference to Sports Illustrated, as the Life-jacket Edition is a reference to SI's Swimsuit Issue.
  • Boulder being tied down and Doc Greene's "Lilliputian revolution" are references to Gulliver's Travels.
  • The episode's working title (see below) is shared with a 1937 novel and its 1974 film adaptation.
  • The final title of the episode is similar to James Harriot's 1972 book All Creatures Great and Small, itself taken from an Anglican hymn.

Trivia

ABGaS-LuskeyBooth-robot.jpg
  • This episode was also listed in many places as "Thieves Like Us", a working title for the episode.[1]
  • Whether by design or by accident, the race car version of Heatwave, released in 2018, strongly resembles the generic red robot adorning Mayor Luskey's booth.
  • Should you desire your own souvenir bots, a company on the mainland has them available, for a very reasonable price. They won't walk on their own, but they also won't steal your wallet. (The souvenir toys being fully-ambulatory robots effectively gets around prohibitions on "host selling" in the U.S. Children's Television Act.)
