Universe (2008)

  • Mini-Con Class 12 Pack (Multi-pack, 2008)
  • Series: Armada Series
  • Known designers: Joe Kyde (deco artist)
Universe Cloudraker is a redeco of Classics Divebomb, transforming into an AH-64D Longbow Apache assault helicopter. He has a "Powerlinx" socket on the underside of his vehicle mode that allows him to attach to larger toys with compatible Powerlinx plugs.
He was only available as part of a Kmart exclusive Mini-Con 12-pack, along with Backstop, Blight, Bodyblock, Boltflash, Brimstone, Flatfoot, Heavytread, Knockdown, Makeshift, Skyhammer, and Suppressor.
This mold was also used to make Torque Gain, Henkei! Destron Vorter, and Universe Crosshairs.

In the UK, all twelve Mini-Cons from the original "Mini-Con Class 12 Pack" set were released in individual blind-packed bags with "energon fizzy jellies" candies, distributed by The Little Factory Ltd.
Though all of these Mini-Cons are actually new molds with numerous tiny differences from the originals, Cloudraker is one of the few toys with a major change, and the only one with a major physical change: instead of having all four of his rotor blades on a single piece, this version has two crossed on top of two, allowing the rotors to be rotated parallel for ease of packaging.

Notes

  • While both the instructions and official photos depict Cloudraker's robot mode with the legs hanging loosely from his upper body, the tabs on his lower body fit neatly into slots on his legs, creating a marginally more cohesive robot mode. At least, normally. Not so much with his UK candy-toy version thanks to the slightly-shoddy molding.
  • Deco artist Joe Kyde was particularly pleased by Cloudraker's colors and wanted to re-use them on something bigger, resulting in the 2007 movie series Reverb toy—which was sadly cancelled.
