This article is about the Power Core Combiners Autobot. For the Kre-O Autobot, see Grimstone (Kre-O).
Grimstone is an Autobot Commander from the Power Core Combiners portion of the movie continuity family.

Is the Space Pope reptilian?

Grimstone is power-hungry for an Autobot, longing for the privilege great power brings. Despite this, he knows the purpose of power is protecting the weak, and that it brings with it the responsibility to put others first. It's unclear if undergoing the Power Core Combination process satisfied Grimstone's ambitions, but his new Dinobots have certainly made him strong enough to protect the less fortunate.

Power Core Combiners

  • Grimstone with Dinobots (Commander Class, 2010)
Part of the fourth wave of Power Core Combiners, Grimstone transforms into a Styracosaurus. He also has a third super-robot torso mode compatible with all Power Core Combiners drone-limbs, though his nominal combination is with his packed-in Dinobot drones. He also has a Mini-Con Powerlinx hardpoint on his tail-tip.
Wave 4 only barely made it out to normal retail at first, meaning most fans had to get him from online stores. In the latter half of 2011, the later Power Core Combiners 5-packs started showing up at discount chains like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
This mold was also used to make Grimmaster.

  • Power Core Combiners Special Value Offer (Value Pack, 2011)
Grimstone and the Dinobots were made more readily available at retail as part of a Walmart-exclusive Black Friday value pack, combining a 5-pack team with a Commander 2-pack via packaging tape and a couple of stickers, and costing all of ten dollars. Wow.
Grimstone has been found packed with the Icepick/Chainclaw, Leadfoot/Pinpoint, Salvage/Bomb-Burst, Skyhammer/Airlift and Undertow/Waterlog 2-packs.

Notes

  • Grimstone's box misidentifies him as a Triceratops.
  • Grimstone's airbrushed prototype stock photography depicts his super robot mode's helmet/dinosaur head having a slightly wider gap between its nose and eyes compared to the less separated "cracks" of the regular robot mode, suggesting there was once an additional joint that allowed his dinosaur nose to slide out and separate/extend ever so slightly from the rest of its face.
  • Legacy Wreck N' Rule Collection Spindle has a chest piece sculpted in homage to Grimstone's torso.[1]

I really enjoyed the old power core combiner dinobot Grimstone toy back when I painted the prototypes so the figure has always stuck in my mind."—Mark Maher, Instagram, 2022/05/11
