Synopsis

OddBotOut Welcome Bee party.jpg

Blades is extremely excited that Bumblebee is coming to visit, and is attempting to organize the other Rescue Bots into holding a welcome party for him. Though Heatwave suggests that it's just possible that Bumblebee might be coming for a mission, Blades continues with his preparations. Busy preparing a banner, Dani hands Cody a letter to mail. As he's running out to mail it, he runs into Frankie, who is sporting her dad's latest invention: Ski-neakers. She invites him along to test them, and Heatwave opts to come along, since he can now turn into a boat. They head out, straight past the mail box, and head out to Doc Greene's floating laboratory. The two kids try out the Ski-neakers, which work perfectly, however a freak giant wave suddenly appears on the otherwise calm ocean. Doc Greene and Heatwave scoop them up, and they successfully ride out the wave, though the floating lab is trashed.

"Hi! Will you be my friend?"

"Bee Day" finally arrives, and both the firehouse and Blades's carefully written schedule are ready. Chase has prepared a poem, while Boulder has painted a picture of Bumblebee and Optimus which Blades has trouble working out where to fit in. Just as Heatwave's reminding everyone that Bumblebee is probably here on business, the Bot himself arrives and confirms he's indeed on a mission. His holographic message from Optimus Prime reveals that there's a Cybertronian artifact on or near Griffin Rock that the Autobots are searching for. The Rescue Bots fill in the rest of the team, and Bumblebee shows off the sensor he has to detect the relic. An extra problem rears up, as Chief Burns gets a call from the mainland and learns that Dani's pilot license has expired as Cody forgot to post her renewal off. Cody instead suggests she rides with Bumblebee. As the team searches the island, Blades keeps butting in to the comms to tell Bumblebee stories and chat. They soon exhaust the places to look for the relic, and are beginning to head back when Cody calls with the news that a right whale is attacking the Griffin Rock ferry. Captain Shaw and his passengers jump overboard as the whale jumps on the ship, causing it to start sinking. Heatwave and Blades head out to help, while the others return to the firehouse. Blades is put out at not being able to hang out with Bumblebee.

Doc Greene looks at the data and Frankie and Cody puzzle over the weird happenings. Cody recalls Madeline Pynch was turned down for an undersea drilling permit a week ago. The Greenes head for the floating lab to investigate further. Blades arrives back at the fire station to find Bumblebee trying out the training course, and Chase and Heatwave join in trying to beat Bee's record. Blades becomes increasingly upset by Dani and Bumblebee's bonding, and goes inside to sulk. He's found there by Optimus Prime, who needs his help for a special mission to retrieve the relic from underwater. The pair head out, pausing to tell Cody where they're going. Meanwhile the racing on the rescue course is halted when a sinkhole unexpectedly opens and Chase and Chief fall in. They're luckily retrieved from the hole by the rest of the team.

Optimus fills Blades in on the relic they're after — a device which turns solid matter into water and which is threatening to do so to the entire island. Cody asks Doc Greene to triangulate where the relic, which Frankie designates a "Liquefier", might be, while the rest of team head off to deal with the geysers and sinkholes opening across the island. Optimus and Blades reach the target location, and find the Pynch's oil rig standing conspicuously nearby. On the island, the rest of the team carries out a series of rescues, but as Dani retrieves an older couple from their sinking log cabin, she falls into the mud and begins sinking. Optimus finds the relic and uses the Matrix of Leadership to disable it. The matter it has converted begins to return to being solid, but unfortunately not quickly enough for Dani, however Bumblebee uses a clothes line to pull her out of the quicksand. Blades and Bumblebee fistbump and the team is back together.

Quotes

"This time, everything's going to be perfect for my BFF!"
"BFF?"
"Bot Friend Forever"

Blades and Boulder

"I have prepared some poetry in honor of Bumblebee's arrival.
Code seven, code seven, so unlike a code eleven.
Regulations for the populace allow no calamity to topple us.
I would continue, but I require a rhyme for protocol."

Chase's poem

"It's not a game, Kade. Cybertronian technology is extremely fragile and dangerous."
"Ooh, well then you guys should have kept better track of it, huh?"

Heatwave and Kade

"I am grateful that you were willing to temporary leave your team to assist me."
"Optimus! Helping you is... I mean, you're bigger than Elvis!"
"I have not met this 'Elvis' and am unaware of his size."

Optimus Prime and Blades

"Please be advised that all lanes are temporarily car pools."

Chase appears to have figured out humor when describing the flooding.

Notes

Continuity notes

  • The decorations put up in the fire station include a big poster-sized version of the picture of Bumblebee and Blades which Dani took at the end of "Bumblebee to the Rescue".
  • Optimus uses an energize tool, in this case the winch that came with the Blades toy, to pull himself to safety after retrieving the relic.
  • When transporting Optimus, Blades operates without a pilot, which is supposedly less conspicuous than Dani flying him. It's not until the following episode (The Griffin Rock Express) that the Bots having that kind of independence is established with the townspeople.
    • The situation still remains rather murky, however, as Chief himself flies around in Blades in this episode despite not being known to have a license at all. Even if he does, in "Buddy System", Cody flies around with Blades due to his locked buddy bracelet paired to Blades'. While this is initially explained by Chief as using "the robot's autopilot recall setting", they spend much of the rest of the episode spotting snakes, rescuing Chase from a constrictor and ultimately returning to the EMP zone.
  • While rescuing Chase from the sinkhole, Heatwave notes that fishing does have a practical use. The bots experience with fishing, and Heatwave's frustration with it, originated back in "Deep Trouble".

Transformers references

Real-world references

  • A police code 7 is a meal break, while a police code 11 is a call for a SWAT team.
  • Chase refers to "air safety rule 46306 subsection 7", the rule concerning unlicensed pilots.
  • As Blades has his strop, he complains to Dani, "I'm your original "B", that rhymes with "me", and it stands for "Blades"!" The line parodies the lyrics of "Ya Got Trouble", the signature tune of the musical The Music Man: "With a capital "B", and that rhymes with "P", and that stands for "pool"!".
  • Blades mentions Elvis and Optimus said he hadn’t met him.

Trivia

  • The month on the calendar Blades consults has 30 days and starts on a Friday. Matching months include June 2012 (during which time the second season of Prime was on hiatus) and November 2013.
  • Cody had Dani's renewal letter in his pocket for three days and didn't remember it was still there?
  • An artifact that can only be deactivated with the Matrix, but which can be trivially activated without it, seems like either a bad idea or a design flaw.
