Primus explained to the Transformers and humans assembled on Cybertron that Unicron consumed every planet, every galaxy, even space itself, leaving only the emptiness of the void. However, he missed tiny fragments of the old realms which reacted in an explosion, eventually creating the universe and its protector, Primus. The Void!

3H comics

The old universe that had existed long before the new one came into being had been inhabited by not just planets and galaxies but by omnipotent gods, energy beings who had grown beyond all bounds. However, in all their power, they failed to notice that one of their number, Unicron, had grown hungry in his desire to consume all life in this universe. Through this shortsightedness and a lack of immortality, the gods were devoured by Unicron along with the rest of this universe. Unicron continued to eat until all that remained was the void, in which he finally slept. But a small, subatomic speck of life remained, and hung on to cause the chain reaction that birthed the new universe.

The Chronarchitect, who was kin of Unicron and Primus, may have also originated from this old universe, having survived through his abstract state of existence. Covenant
