Payuma ruins

The Payuma ruins are all that is left of the Payuma tribe. The ruins of their cave dwellings were the subject of research hundreds of years later by Doctor Kenneth Onishi of Japan. Some say the twisting underground corridors of the Payuma ruins contain a secret chamber containing treasures, or possibly information vital to the Autobot/Predacon conflict.

2001 Robots in Disguise cartoon

Led to the Payuma ruins by images extracted from Doctor Onishi's mind by the psycho-probe, Sky-Byte was alarmed to find he'd been beaten there by Side Burn and Koji Onishi, who were actually only there to explore. As the pair ventured inside the ruins, Sky-Byte took the opportunity to fire a couple of shark missiles after them, and Side Burn was forced to try and outrun them in the narrow confines of the corridors.

Also at the ruins was Kelly, who was narrowly missed by both the talking car and the mute missiles. Side Burn eventually managed to evade the missiles by driving up a vertical passageway, also allowing him to get high enough that the stone was no longer muffling his radio signal, and he could make contact with Optimus Prime in order to fill the Autobot leader in.

Optimus rushed there, confronting Sky-Byte as the shark had discovered a casket at the top of a stepped pyramid. Despite belting the shark with his Flying Fist and attempting to wrestle him to the ground, Prime was unable to prevent Sky-Bytefrom making off with the casket. Luckily, the Predacon had barely made it out of the ruins' entrance before he was brought to a halt by Prowl and X-Brawn. Once the casket had been returned to its rightful place in the ruins, Koji opened it to reveal it was empty but for a framed picture of Koji and his father. Hidden in the picture frame, he found a microchip, which would give the Autobots a great advantage in the ongoing conflict. The Secret of the Ruins
