The Transformers

(thumbnail)
Awww, look, it's the first shellformer.
The Transformers Scourge has a beard and a mustache and transforms into soap a Cybertronian hovercraft. On early releases, the blue on the center of Scourge's alt mode was paint. This was changed to two stickers for later releases. The stickers on his ankles tend to get damaged through normal transformation.
Scourge's design has some oddities to it other than just him being a beardo. His head mounted gun (the "Disintegrator Ray") is on a standardised 5 mm post hole, but his fist holes are smaller — so his laser blaster and disintegrator ray aren't interchangeable. Scourge also has knees. He's got no reason to have knees, they're not part of his transformation or really useful for anything, but he still has them. Maybe he could use them for flying poses in robot mode. Maybe.
Some releases of Scourge came with a piece of a four-part The Transformers: The Movie poster with glow-in-the-dark elements.
Scourge was reissued in his original packaging in Australia in 1990.

I can wear a little man on my head.
A retool of the original Scourge toy, Targetmaster Scourge's hand-holes were widened, to accommodate a new Targetmaster weapon. His handgun was replaced with Fracas. This retooling made his weapons interchangeable, allowing Scourge to wear Fracas on his head and to hold his rocket booster (the new name for the disintegrator ray) in his hand.
Yay, progress! Still don't know why he's got knees, though.
Targetmaster Scourge's packaging originally contained the erroneous blurb "Fracas transforms into Misfire's weapon!"[1] Supposedly, this was fixed by a running change, but the corrected version is said to be much rarer than the fixed box for Targetmaster Hot Rod, who originally suffered the same problem.
Like Targetmaster Cyclonus & unlike most of the 1987 Decepticon Targetmasters, this version of the toy was not released in Japan.

Titanium Series

If they make too many toys of him, he'll get a big head! Well, a bigger head.
  • Scourge (6-inch Cybertron Heroes, 2006)
  • Accessories: display stand with nameplate
Titanium Series Scourge once again transforms into a retro-futuristic hovercraft, this time with a more accurate sculpt to his animation model (well, minus the head) and significantly improved articulation. While not 100% accurate, the wings in particular are now hinged in the middle to allow them to open wider, and the legs have a much more closely detailed design. But man does he have a big forehead.
He includes a display stand with a removable nameplate.

Timelines

(thumbnail)
Oh, all you Unicron agents look alike!
A retool of Cybertron Deluxe Class Sideways, Timelines Scourge is a blue and white alien spacefighter with Cyber Planet Key-activated pop-out blades built into his battle shield. He comes with a red Planet X style Cyber Key with blue deco. His wings can also detach from his ankles and be used as blades, with both pegging into his hands, either with one blade in each hand, or with both blades pegging into the top and bottom of a single hand, forming a double-bladed weapon. Sadly, the faction symbol-swapping gimmick has been neglected. Scourge was only available as part of a multi-pack at BotCon 2009.
This toy was redecoed to make Sweeps Two, Six, and Seven for the same convention. The original version of this mold was also used for the Japanese DVD-exclusive Noisemaze Mass Production Type Version and Universe Ratbat.

Generations

He's moving on up in the world. From flying bathtub to flying wing.
  • Scourge (Deluxe Class, 2010/2011)
    • Accessories: 2 handguns
Part of the sixth wave of 2010-2011 Generations Deluxe Class toys, Scourge transforms into a jet loosely based on the Boeing X-48 blended wing body concept aircraft. He comes with two weapons that are both held via 5 mm post, and can combine (via C joint) into a weapon that looks like Fracas. These weapons can store inside each of his cape halves/aircraft wings, which can unfold to create Scourge's cape-like batwings in robot mode (though this is not suggested in the instructions). The weapon with the clip can also attach to the 3mm bar of his head-mounted laser. His head can also rise up an extra click farther than usual so that you can reenact hilarious character model mishaps in vehicle mode. It's not mentioned in the instructions either, but there's no other reason for that jointing to exist.
Like many, many aircraft-based Transformers, Scourge possesses landing gear in his alternate mode. There is a pair of flaps near the middle of his underside that can unfold to display six wheels, and underneath his robot mode head is a seventh landing gear wheel that can be flipped out. However, this third section is unusable while his head is extended, which causes him to tip backwards even with the other two stabilizing sections out.
His packaging stock photography shows Scourge with red light-piped eyes, but the production version changes that to blue, which is odd considering this is clear plastic painted blue. His instructions also depict him with an alternate head sculpt.
There have been reports of instances of Scourge being shipped with two right hands, however this does not impact his transformation negatively.

United

(thumbnail)
M.C. Sweep Commander.
United Scourge is a redeco of the Generations version, now including metallic blue paint on his chest, shoulders, waist, and forearms. He also has extended wing stripes and red windows for the cockpit. The blue on his legs is now a lighter, more purple blue. Silver paint replaces the white paint on his forearms, and he has silver paint on his hands (retaining the metallic red fingers). His facial hair is now dark blue instead of gray, and he has dark blue and silver paint on his torso (instead of gray). The Decepticon insignia is now smaller and towards the center of his torso. His eyes are now painted a clear red.

  • Decepticon Set (3-pack, April 2011)
    • Accessories: 2 handguns
Dubbed "Decepticon Scourge Blue Purple Clear Version", this redeco of the 2010 Scourge mold (see above) is cast in transparent purple-ish blue, translucent light blue, and opaque purple-blue plastics, emulating the scene in The Transformers: The Movie where Scourge is created from Thundercracker. He's something of an odd man out in the set, being significantly bluer than his very purple comrades.
This version was only available in an e-HOBBY exclusive 3-pack with clear-plastic versions of Galvatron, Nightstick, and Cyclonus. Preorders for the set were opened on December 13, 2010, and closed on January 11, 2011, and shipped in April.
This figure was available with a Galvatron pin and Macrocosmic Seekers booklet directly from e-HOBBY, he was also released in Asian countries outside of Japan without said pin and booklet.

Kre-O

Kre-O-Toy Scourge.jpg
  • Scourge (Kreon Micro-Changer, 2013)
    • Collection: 2
    • Bag number: ***** 72
    • Accessories: stand-brick (or plate, 2015 releases only), small pistol, 2 clip-on rifles
As part of the second wave of blindpacked Micro-Changers, Kre-O Scourge can be rebuilt into the same spaceship/hovercraft thing that Generation 1 Scourge turns into. He reuses Mirage's helmet, Starscream's arm guns, and Bumblebee's pistol.
This Collection was still in circulation at "dollar" stores and drug stores up through 2015. They eventually lost the individual-identifying bag codes, but other changes were hidden inside the bag. The 2015 releases replaced the 2x4 logo stand-brick with a new 3x4 logo plate. The Kreon was also given the slight retooling to the arm seen in the 2014 Kreons, making the "cuff" parts more sharp-cornered and better adapted to being used as studs. Some of the add-on pieces may also be slightly off-color, possibly due to a change in factories in mid-production.

  • Scourge (Kreon Micro-Changer, 2016)
    • Collection: 2
    • Accessories: stand-plate, small pistol, 2 clip-on rifles
In 2016, Collection 2 was re-released in a whole new production run for Dollar General stores in the US as part of a large collection of re-released Kre-O sets. But where most of these releases are nigh-identical to the originals, the re-released Micro-Changer blind-bags use the almost-entirely-retooled 2015 Kreon, with slightly-differently-hued plastics than the originals. (It is possible for some of the add-on pieces to be in the older hues.) Scourge's paint operations have also been altered to replace the flat light gray paint with shiny silver, as well as changing his faction symbol from solid black to a white-outlined purple.
Sadly, this release has no individual-identification code on the bag, requiring you to use the feel-through-the-bag method or just buy blind and hope.

Titans Return

(thumbnail)
"You can take only the heads of the animals!"
"It's funny you think you can dictate that."
  • Fracas & Scourge (Deluxe Class, 2016)
    • Accessories: Fracas, 2 handguns
Part of the first wave of Titans Return Deluxe Class toys, Scourge transforms from a robot to spaceship and back.
Scourge's head can transform into the Titan Master Fracas, who can either drive Scourge in vehicle mode, pilot Scourge's larger weapon, or plug into the vehicle mode's tower for a Floro Dery-inspired mode; this mount point is specially sculpted for Titan Master heads. As a result of the toy's construction, Scourge can be transformed into vehicle mode without removing his head, leaving it somewhat hidden on the vehicle's backside.
Scourge comes with two hand-held weapons—a handgun based on his original toy's headpiece, and a double-barreled weapon. They can also combine into a larger three-barreled gun loosely based on Generation 1 Fracas. The double-barreled weapon can be piloted by a Titan Master. Two pegs for standing Titan Master figures are located on the nose section, though the detailing in those spots limits them to facing either forward or backward at a specific angle. His vehicle mode also has four sculpted blasters on its underside, formed from his shin panels. Behind these are two 3mm peg holes, which can mount some Legion Class weapons. He has two 5 mm peg holes to mount his weapons in vehicle mode.
Because many of the tabs in the legs plug into slots with one open side in the legs, Scourge's vehicle mode can end up with a gap in the nose section. Unlike the Legends release of the mold (see below) which is colored to match the Generation 1 cartoon, the Hasbro release is colored to invoke the Generation 1 toy, complete with sticker-inspired tampographs.
There is an error in his stock image due to being a rendered 3D model instead of the actual toy; the shin pieces colored blue in robot mode but white in vehicle mode. The model also has smaller eyes than the final toy, and shows the swivels in his knees being clear. The toy also features a minimal amount of paint apps in robot mode, resulting in a nearly monochromatic color scheme.
Scourge also suffers a design flaw: the clamp piece that connects his Titan Master's head mode is too wide, and it's prone to make the head wobble.
Scourge can also use the Siege Fracas Battle Master if one is inclined to have two Fracases.
Despite the available premise of army-building for Sweeps, Scourge was a commonly-found shelfwarmer of the Titans Return toyline.

No pink fingernails? You have failed us, Takara!
  • Scourge (August 27, 2016)
    • ID number: LG26
    • Accessories: Headmaster, 2 handguns
Legends Scourge is a redeco of Titans Return Deluxe Scourge in a color scheme more accurate to the G1 cartoon, although he doesn't have pink paint on his fingernails (which is mostly because of them being molded in unpaintable plastic). Unfortunately, it still suffers from the same wide clamp piece as the Hasbro release.
Scourge was reissued in December 2017, probably to commemorate the release of the Sharktron & Sweeps set.

Platinum Edition

  • Armada of Cyclonus (Platinum Edition 3-pack, 2016)
    • Accessories: 2 guns
Part of Hasbro's Platinum Edition offerings for 2016 intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, Scourge is a redeco of his 2010 Generations Deluxe Class toy, featuring transparent plastic on several parts to evoke his reformation in the movie.
Scourge was released as part of 3-pack with Cyclonus and "Decepticon Sweeps", named "Armada of Cyclonus". Despite officially being touted as "available online" by Hasbro at BotCon 2016, thereby implying a "shared exclusive" between multiple online retailers for the United States market (which would usually include the likes of Amazon, BigBadToyStore, Entertainment Earth, and Hasbro Toy Shop), it was ultimately only ever listed and stocked by two US-based online stores, namely TFSource and Scramble Core, both of whom obtain their stock through Asian vendors. The set did see a somewhat more widespread release in Hasbro's Asian markets (most notably Singapore) and, more surprisingly, was even officially released in Canada (where it was sold at Toys"R"Us stores and also made available via Walmart's Canadian website, though never sold stores) and the United Kingdom (where it was available via the UK Toys"R"Us website). It was also listed very early on by Amazon's Spanish subsidiary, but was ultimately never stocked by them.
For unknown reasons, the mold has been retooled to remove the head's ability to raise and lower, with the old internal mechanism replaced with solid blocks that keep it fixed at robot mode height. Furthermore, the included instructions picture Generations Ratbat rather than either Scourge or the Sweep.

Studio Series

(thumbnail)
Remember, your wallet belongs to him!
  • Scourge (Voyager Class, 2020)
Released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie, Studio Series Scourge is based on his appearance in the Generation 1 cartoon. He has multiple 5 mm ports on his body and 3 mm posts at the barrel of his blasters to facilitate the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. His helmet in robot mode also has a 3 mm post on the front, which can fit the included fire blast effect.
Scourge has an odd sculpting decision: while his right hand is a fairly standard "holding-things" fist with 5mm port, his left hand is sculpted in a more open gesture that shows off his painted pink fingernails. Both hands can hold his included gun and most 5mm-compatible weapons. The painted mushroom joints on his wrists can make his hands difficult to turn. Despite his high level of articulation, the range of movement in his hips is limited by the sculpting of the sides of his pelvis.
Scourge also features a second vehicle mode configuration in his instructions to replicate the occasional moments in the movie and the cartoon where his head would be visible in vehicle mode. To achieve this, his whole vehicle mode shell needs to be opened; the armature that his head assembly is on needs to be extended up, and as you bring the shell halves back together, the back panel attached to the head assembly tabs into both of his "engines." As an additional feature, one can also fold the faux engine piece on the back of his head down to give him neck articulation.
Like the other Studio Series toys, the interior of the package forms a display background for the toy. In this case, it is the scrolling energy grid from when Unicron reformats Thundercracker into Scourge, complete with mid-reformatting Kickback and Shrapnel drawn in.
If one chooses, Scourge can use the Battle Master Fracas from the Siege Decepticon Phantomstrike Squadron set, though there is no possible way to accommodate his vehicle mode.
This mold was slightly retooled into Sweep (which by contrast was decoed after Scourge's original toy), and more substantially retooled into Transformers: Legacy A Hero Is Born Alpha Trion and again into Legacy Rise of Tyranny Senator Ratbat . His hands were used for Collaborative Draculus.

War for Cybertron Trilogy

Behold Galvatron Scourge.JPG
  • Behold, Galvatron! Unicron Companion Pack (Leader Class, 2022)
War for Cybertron Trilogy Scourge is a non-transforming and immobile minifigure, barely 10mm tall, scaled to interact with the immense War for Cybertron Trilogy Unicron figure and its clear display base. This was one of a set of 14 minifigures in the "Unicron Companion Pack" that was included with the "reformatting" version of Galvatron. The set was exclusive to Hasbro Pulse.

Merchandise

Transformers Milk Caramel

  • Scourge (1986)
A small glow-in-the-dark rubber figurine of Scourge—known in Japan as a keshigomu—was released as part of Kabaya's Transformers 2010-themed assortment of Transformers Milk Caramel candy toys. Scourge came with chocolate-covered caramel candies, and was available in red, yellow, blue and green.

First 4 Figures

First 4 Figures Scourge statue.jpg
  • Scourge (2006/2007 unreleased)
Likely the inaugural release in First 4 Figures' "Generation One" series, this would have been a full body resin statue of Scourge, taking after his cartoon appearance but in a more modern aesthetic. He is depicted standing on a rocky and volcanic environment, probably intended to be Chaar.
After first being shown to the toy press at New York Toy Fair in February 2006,[3] Scourge was revealed to the public in the form of a 3D render that same month, when he was listed for sale online.[4] His unpainted prototype was later shown off both on the First 4 Figures website[5] and at that year's San Diego Comic-Con.[3]
Unfortunately, Scourge and the rest of the "Generation One" series were casualties of the general discontinuation of First 4 Figures' Transformers output, which was attributed to a challenging market and a lack of retailer support.
Your bargaining posture is highly dubious.

Proceed on your way to oblivion.
This item has been canceled, with no current plans for release.

Notes

Scourge and Sweeps.jpg
  • As Sweeps are physically identical to Scourge in most continuities, any enterprising fan can just buy multiples of a Scourge toy and repurpose them as Sweeps, as demonstrated by the army-building photo to the right.
