Yo, could you maybe mark your additions of the delete template to articles as "minor changes"? Because theyre frickin' drowning the recent changes page lately, and a way to not have to see them would be nice. - Chris McFeely 12:54, 7 April 2009 (EDT)

...well, once I get to 'em, all you have to do is click "hide patrolled edits."--RosicrucianTalk 13:55, 7 April 2009 (EDT)
Oh, yeah, I know that, I just mean before they get deleted (I could delete them myself, of course, but... here we are!). --Chris McFeely 13:58, 7 April 2009 (EDT)

...I will however request that you be a bit less zealous in your flagging of "outdated" talkpages. If it's a talkpage for an article that exists, it ought not get deleted.--RosicrucianTalk 14:42, 7 April 2009 (EDT)

To clarify, lest there be a misunderstanding, I am absolutely cool with 99.95% of the ones you are nominating. Talkpage redirects? Boffo. Talkpages for articles that no longer exist? With you entirely. I only object to deleting talkpages for existing articles.--RosicrucianTalk 15:09, 7 April 2009 (EDT)

Link fixing

...are you actually fixing all those links BY HAND when a page moves? -Derik 06:26, 21 November 2009 (EST)

Hm, yes. I am aware of the bot, but there's two reasons why I (sometimes) prefer to do things by hand:
  1. Some moves require attention a bot can't give. I assume the bot changed all Timelines links to Timelines (fiction), even when that clearly is the wrong link. For franchise names, I prefer to see things sorted, which only can happen manually. This also is/was the case for finally disamb'd stuff like Lithone, Junkion, Black Friday, Transmutate, etc. which in a few cases would link to the wrong place if done by bot.
  2. In some cases, I'm just not in the mood to see organization be put aside until a bot can attend to it. And doing it manually also gives me a reason to just as well quickly check out the entire pages' coding. Geewunling 06:49, 21 November 2009 (EST)
3) The 'bot has been broken since June?
4) Derik hasn't been around to fix or, or queue up changes even if it was working?
(It's fixed now.) -Derik 07:08, 21 November 2009 (EST)
So, what's the problem here, then? Yes, I do sometimes take care of things manually, which apparently was the only option for some time. Geewunling 07:11, 21 November 2009 (EST)

Continuity-based categories

Because there's no point in attempting an edit summary convo when the wiki keeps going down every five seconds...
Near as I can tell, it doesn't matter if a character is from a certain continuity or not, just that they showed up in a certain continuity's fiction. See stuff like Category:TransTech characters, for instance. --Jeysie 16:58, 22 February 2010 (EST)

But did Feezon (and the others) show up in another continuity? Given the nature of Venus magazine, I find that a doubtful case: Animated is merely the vessel through which her presence in some sort of unnamed multicontinuity story is told. Or at least, that's how I view it and I might be mistaken. But if so, I do ask for consistency: at least the active participants of Venus should then all be listed as Animated characters. Geewunling 17:09, 22 February 2010 (EST)
Like I said, I think it's just the fiction that matters. I wouldn't have a problem listing all of the characters mentioned in Venus as being "Animated characters" if they have sections in their fiction listing their mention, as it would be consistent with how we generally seem to do things.
Still, it could be brought up on the Community Portal, as it wouldn't be the first time I've been told something is wrong even though we do it all the time... :P --Jeysie 08:58, 23 February 2010 (EST)
If you could bring it up on the CP first, that'd be appreciated. :) Geewunling 09:35, 23 February 2010 (EST)

Stellar Galleries images

What sorta angle did you have in mind for the image of the planets and key? I've got a few shots of the main chamber from the entrance, but the key canister isn't really visible in them, and likewise the shots I have of the key canister don't show the planets very well. --abates 04:08, 13 July 2010 (EDT)

Firstly, thank you very much for the entrance shot. It looks great.
I haven't played the game myself, so my request stems from what I could see and estimate to be good image content in the youtube clips. I had hoped there was a way to get both elements properly in one shot, but if that's impossible, I let it to someone who actually played the game (you) to decide which element is more vital to the room. I have no clue why the Omega Key was kept there, but if it's only because the game just happened to be laid out like that, a shot of the planet statue is the better option. If there's actually a storywise good reason the Omega Key is kept in the Stellar Galleries, then an image of the canister is the better option. Geewunling 08:12, 13 July 2010 (EDT)
Thanks! I wish there was a way to hide the health bars and so on for a cleaner shot. I'll see what I can do about a shot of the interior. --abates 16:59, 13 July 2010 (EDT)

Junkion names

This I can help you with, 'mono wheel chest' is specific enough for me. The only one in the Complete Ark with a single chest wheel Is named Rubbish. On that note, the only one with TWO chest wheels is named Ashtray. = Cattleprod 17:11, 17 November 2010 (EST)

Bringing this over: As I said, the mainpic template contains a "screenshot description" that should make it possible to track who is who. Otherwise, the three most in front in order are: kisser, double-eye and mouthplate. I do have a copy of The Ark, and to me, it seems double-eye's model has no face, unlike the animated version. Just two goggle-like things for "eyes". And large head is... well, the one that attacks Arcee if that helps recognize him. He's got Rubbish's arm model, if that helps further distinguish him. Geewunling 17:16, 17 November 2010 (EST)
Sorry, I'll try to keep all my responses here now. I think Double Eye is close enough to be Hazmat, his chest and helmet design match up, and there's always going to be variations of character models. From Walky's page:
Ah. Assuming I read you right: Kisser (guy with shield) is Re-Cycle (God help you figuring out if 'cycle' should be capitalized or not. Double eye is Hazmat, and mouthplate is Greasestain. From your talk page, I'm fairly sure mono wheel chest is Rubbish, making dual wheel chest Ashtray. - Cattleprod 17:21, 17 November 2010 (EST)
Well, I don't think the wheel-chest guys could cause much confusion. They've got specific design details easily identified and described. Thanks a lot for the information-I'm going to be adjusting the pages now... but in case it was missed in between, any suggestion for large head's true name? Geewunling 17:28, 17 November 2010 (EST)

Oops, didn't see that the TF Timeline thing had already been mostly reverted already when I got to it. So, uh, not NOing at you. --ItsWalky 09:34, 25 April 2011 (EDT)

If you're going to undo changes...

Can you at least give a reason why? If someone took the time to make a thoughtful edit, you at least owe them that courtesy. At the very least, some feedback would help improve future edits. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Brawl (talkcontribs).

Sure thing. Firstly, the second part was very speculate-ish and kinda made it sound like killing people would be unbefitting for Starscream or Decepticons in general. If there ever has been such a thing as a "compassion center" in TF fiction, I'm sure it was in a sentence explaining Decepticons don't have them or something. Whatever evil they actually do, Decepticons aren't nice, certainly not if they are leader figures. That's their shtick. As for the first part... I simply doubt that is true, given "War Dawn" comes very late in the second season. Wouldn't throwing Spike out of that rocket in "A Prime Problem" count as an act to kill too? Even if Megatron knew the Autobots would likely save him, so could be the case for Starscream. The humans don't appear important in either situation, just tools to distract and bother the Autobots with. In all, the edit you made had too many "ifs and buts" and too little factual substance.
Does that explain it? Geewunling 04:39, 17 May 2011 (EDT)

Account

I just created a account today and I'm wondering when I will become a auto-comfirmed user. --Cavaliere 09:53, 7 July 2011 (EDT)

Deleting redirects

Why so keen to delete redirects? The cost of having them is much lower than the benefit in most cases.--Jimsorenson 12:11, 8 August 2011 (EDT)

My reasons for getting rid of redirects, if there's any reason our search sucks it's because redirects clutter up the suggested page list. Some redirects have purpose - you might notice I have left just "Biggles-Jones" alone and only ask all the title variations get removed. But others are just superfluous and often the result of a well-reasoned move and not worth the maintenance. And... I don't know if I am the only one to experience this, but I end up disappointed every time I click something that seems like a page I have not read before only to find it a redirect. Geewunling 12:19, 8 August 2011 (EDT)
Well, in the specific case of our dearly departed Doctor, she was actually called all of those things at one point or another, so they're pretty reasonable. And would you really be disappointed if you clicked on Dr Biggles-Jones and found yourself on the Sidney Biggles-Jones page? Were you really expecting something else?
As for the search sucking, I've had absolutely the opposite experience. I've done many searches for what I thought were pretty common variations of names and had zero luck until I hit on the exact right combination for our article. Usually if I do that I'll make a redirect to help the person who comes next with this issue.
I'm not saying that there are no superfluous redirects. Spike (G1), for example, I don't think people will search for. Or, if they do, it's someone who knows the system well enough to find Spike Witwicky (G1). But title variations used in print are probably a good candidate to keep. --Jimsorenson 12:37, 8 August 2011 (EDT)
On point one, no, I never expected another redirect of Biggles-Jones to be anyone else than her... Though I do experience disappointment every time I type in "bigg" to see a whole list of 'pages' and only three of those are actually something. Not to mention that I favor getting rid of superfluous redirects and that making exceptions because specific cases aren't actually causing problems wouldn't make for a coherent system.
Every time I couldn't find an article right away, the suggestions helped me out or I had simply misspelled the term. If the variation is worth keeping (which means it oughta be more than "same term just with either 'doctor' or 'dr.' in front of it", which actually only makes things more confusing), I'm unlikely to request its deletion. For instance, I am in favor of keeping "Alpha Trion (Timelines)" due to the "Shattered Glass" angle being introduced a few years later. All the variations of Hot Rod/Rodimus's names are fine too (though I did get rid of most "Elita One" variations fot the sake of making the various characters more easily findable). Similarly, I have nothing against "Biggles-Jones" as that's the most prominent part of her name. But throwing two different spellings of "doctor" in front of it seems unnecessary to me. "Biggles-Jones" helps the article to be found. Titles only make the suggestion list messy and do nothing the search pages can't handle.
Generally, I am wary of redirects on alternative names that aren't suggested by the article itself. Can I trust Biggles-Jones to be referred to in all five those ways in the comics? A quick scan through them tells me at least one of them was never used and the article itself should, by strict tfwiki standards, not even be at anything containing "Sidney". Wreckers Finale

I added the Rusty Mace picture. What page do you want the grannybot image for?

Also, the purple guy in that BW fighting game screenshot is Scuba. --Monzo 11:04, 13 August 2011 (EDT)

Yes, thank you very much for the Rusty Mace image. The grannybot pic I need for plasma cannon grannybot. She was kinda bigly mentioned in the script, so I figured she'd be worth doing an article on. Could I ask you for an image of Bender & the R&S robots for the notes section of the Wreckers Finale I page too?
Ah, Scuba! Thanks! Geewunling 11:29, 13 August 2011 (EDT)

Ark Addendum

I like the work you did organizing this, but you realize that I've published about two more years worth of Addendums, right? --Jimsorenson 15:37, 23 August 2011 (EDT)

I most certainly do, and I plan to add the rest soon enough. But I wanted to wait and see if me doing something with the page would not cause any more "should we list this" debates, as I didn't feel like catching up listing two years of Ark Addenda if people potentially wouldn't like the new list or would want to get rid of it altogether. Strikas identity issue

FFOD4-StrikaGlyph.jpg

Hey, do u know which one is Strika in this pic? purple or pink, cuz it'd make more sense if it was the pink one in the pic please inform & by the way how was it confirmed that this was Strika anyway? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jazzerprime (talkcontribs).

WFC Bluestreak

There's no information on either his page or the uploaded art as to where he was revealed or where his art came from. I think sourcing this is kind of important. --Monzo 16:24, 11 November 2011 (EST)

Atari captions

Okay, so you are kind of on a one-person mission to produce a more gender-neutral TFWiki. This is a fair thing to do. With regards to the captions on Atari's page, though... the one that had been under the image of her being attacked by a Legion was, if I recall correctly, created to make fun of the people who didn't see rape imagery in Kiss Players - or tried to write it off as a facet of Japanese culture - when, well, the Legion's tongue is pretty obviously drawn to resemble a urethral opening. I do not believe the caption was meant to be a joke about rape, per se, but an attempt to lampshade those in the fandom who were sticking their fingers in their ears and going "lalala, not listening, that underage-looking girl being attacked by a tongue-phallus is perfectly normal". So... I'm not really sure whether the caption should be changed back or not, here, but I thought some context would be helpful, as I don't know if you were in the fandom at the time KissPlay hit to see the volleys that went back and forth about its subject matter.

I am, conversely, confused as to why you changed the hamster-ear picture's caption, as she is actually in a Japanese elementary school swimsuit... and a little by the change to the one that called her a blight upon this franchise and her gender, as, while it was admittedly harsh, she is not exactly a shining example of human Transformers characters or women in general. --Monzo 04:15, 26 September 2012 (EDT)

Not just gender neutral, but I suppose that's the main effect.
I would like to refrain from answering about the main caption image change for now, because the caption's problems are vast ("harsh" doesn't begin to cover it and all the problems are deeply gendered) and I have a little something in the works that will explain it better once it's done. Though in the meantime, I invite you to ponder on the implications of the joke's "your gender"-part. This may help you get started on one, maybe two of them.
As for the hamster ear joke, I don't think I so much changed it as rephrased it. And I did that only because I didn't think the old phrasing was particular funny. "X models Y" isn't all that much less dry than "X wears Y", which would be just a description of the image. Maybe I missed a reference and in that case I apologize. Either way, I'm okay if it would be changed back. I only adjusted it because I had set my mind on filling up the Atari captions (and fixing the problematic ones) and that one just came in between. (Though I should say I am thinking on doing a Minerva's swimming class article, which would improve the link part of the current joke.)
No, I wasn't around when KP happened and I missed any deniers of its troll content (I should note I avoid TF fora anyway). I don't think I've had to to judge the previous joke, because there's (going to be) a lot of people like me who will only see "You gonna get raped." (which would not be an isolated case of a rape joke or otherwise sexual harrassment approval on this wiki). The disclaimer portion is funny, even without background knowledge, and I've thought about just making that the whole caption. There's too much reading required and too much background knowledge needed to justify that "You gonna get raped." sentence, and the disclaimer's smaller letters don't help anything. But then the Red Riding Hood joke got in my head, and I thought it made for a reasonably non-offensive way to acknowledge the rape and pedosexual context of the image without being ónly about that, so I favored that over just the bare disclaimer. (PS. I have no intention at the moment of going after the other rape jokes attached to the image because they're about the phrase 'raping one's childhood', which is a disgusting phrase, but a phrase anyway and only about the phrase.)
