I finally decided to get around to making an FAQ, especially now that tumblr has the pinned posts feature! This should hopefully help out.

🐡 Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Chekhov (not my real name) and I draw things! (Twitter Instagram)

🐡 Where are you from?

I’m from Siberia! Yeah, you read that right. Siberia. That one cold place in Russia. Yes, I do speak Russian. Infrequently.

Currently, I live and work in Japan.

🐡 What are your pronouns?

They/them!

🐡 Do you do art for a living?

No, I draw as a hobby, and currently use my Patreon to supplement my income!

🐡 Where can I find examples of your work?

My art tag is #chekhov draws, and there are sub-categories such as #chekhov-draws-su (steven universe art), #chekhov-draws-critical-role (you can guess), #chekhov-draws-go (good omens art) and #chekhov-draws-rqg (rusty quill gaming podcast art), but you can find my more comprehensive portfolio on my artstation

I also have an art-only blog @chekhovdraws but it stagnates.

🐡 Do you do commissions?

Yes! Please check my commissions sheet for my prices and to check if they’re open!

🐡 What program/tablet/brushes do you use?

I use a Huion Kamvas 22 Plus for my tablet, MediBang Paint Pro for my art program, and most of my brushes are just the standard default ones on Medibang!

🐡 How did you learn to draw?

I drew a LOT. I have been drawing for over 10 years pretty seriously now! That means 10+ years of drawing almost daily! It’s the grind that does it, I’m afraid.

If you’d like art help, you can check out some tutorials on blogs like @theredlinestation which is specifically dedicated to helping out beginner artists!

🐡 I have a question about Russian / languages / linguistics!

Please check out my #linguistics, #langblr and #russian tags to make sure your questions hasn’t already been covered before asking!

🐡 I sent you an ask but you didn’t answer it… :(

Sorry! It’s not on purpose and I’m not ignoring you - I get a LOT of asks and I end up not having time to go through all of them. (Currently I have over 3000 in my inbox.) I try to answer at least a few every week, but sometimes I just can’t answer in time.

Especially if you’ve sent me an ask that requires a longer explanation - there’s a good chance I tried to start it, put it into my drafts folder, and am still waiting for a chance to get back to it!

I’ll do my best to answer, but please be patient with me!

If it’s something time-sensitive, please try sending a DM instead!

delphi-star asked:

I don't know if you watch the 4-sided dives but the one post downfall is really good cause Brennan is there and we get more info that didn't come out in game!

A

Yeah, I watch all of them! And I definitely enjoyed Brennan’s extra lore, and it was a fun time. :)

I also initially misunderstood something Taliesin said about defining nature in Exandria, and was mad at him for a full 10 minutes before I realized it was about Exandria, not nature in general.

SHIT.

Please reblog!

If you went to this event, or know anyone who did, take action IMMEDIATELY.

For those who don’t want to read: animal adoption event in Colorado recently, one of the puppies had RABIES, they’re trying to track down everyone who might have had contact to get them medical treatment ASAP (because RABIES), this is a very straight forward “oh shit signal boost just in case someone who needs to see this does” chain

Super important to get the word out– rabies is spread via body fluids, not just bites or scratches. And not only are puppies known for teething and scratching accidentally, people tend to let puppies lick them like crazy, including on the face where permeable mucus membranes are, so it’s totally possible someone was exposed without being bitten. So yes, signal boost, and if you know people in Colorado, see if you can get them to take a look and share the article/information with their local networks. Always better safe than sorry where rabies is concerned.

corellianflyboy asked:

If you don't mind my asking, who do domestic animals seem to have separate options for things like sex and age, while wild animals are only listed once? For example, I got mare, I saw someone else on the tags get colt, and those are just the English words for a female horse and a baby male horse respectively.

A

Guys, I didn’t make the random animal generator! 😞

I just found one on the internet! I just wanted one that had enough animals to make it varied, and yes, I know it’s flawed…

This and the guy in the notes who suspected I was just redirecting people to that site for ad views - you think I have WAY more time on my hands than I actually do!

To that point though, if someone knows a better generator or how to MAKE a better one - by all means. Direct me to it!

Q

mary-is-writing asked:

Hi! I'm working as a teacher for the first time this fall, and I'd like to ask you: in your experience, how do you go about working as a teacher and also finding time for your wips like the SU comic? And do you have any tips for someone who has zero experience working with kids (13-15 y/o)? Thanks in advance, and have a nice day!!

A

I think everyone’s experience with this will be different - based on where you’re teaching, what subject you’re teaching, whether you’ll actually be the main-teacher immediately or if you’re simply observing class at first/assisting and how much guidance you’ll get from actual experience teachers, etc….. but my biggest advice may be a bit counterintuitive:

Don’t try to find time. Just wait for time to find you.

I think people often assume they have more time than they actually do. Teaching is pretty time-consuming, but it’s also INCREDIBLY energy-consuming. It’s difficult not only because of the hours, but also because it physically and mentally drains you more than, say, an office job would. You have to be On all the time as a teacher - you have to be watching the students, paying attention to what they’re saying, paying attention to what YOU’RE saying, paying attention to the schedule, paying attention to the lesson, etc. It’s a lot of brainwork!

Regardless of your level of experience, you’re going to be coming home WAY too tired to do anything but lay down. That’s going to be the bulk of your evenings.

Contrary to what it seems like, when I first started teaching, I also did that for the first 4-7 months. I didn’t draw - I didn’t have the energy or time to. I came home, I collapsed, I got up to make dinner, and then I spaced out. Sometimes I got dragged out by friends for social activities. I drew only on the weekends, IF I felt like it.

Eventually, though, I trampled down my schedule into something workable. I started drawing regularly because my body and brain got used to the daily strain and became stronger. (That’s something that’s less known about brains, I think… you have to train yourself to be able to handle that sort of mental stress over time. It’s like endurance training.)

Also. And I need to make this clear:

At the time when I was drawing THE MOST and posting REALLY OFTEN (daily for @ask-whitepearl-and-steven) I was already living with my partner. About 3 years in, we were in the same apartment together and he helped out a TON with laundry and cooking. That made a huge difference. I had support on basic tasks which would have eaten into my time even more.

What I’m saying is - having time for hobbies is great. But you need to make sure you’re not cutting off pieces of yourself, or your sanity, in order to make that happen. Try to be kind and give yourself time to adjust.

As for the advice about kids/teens:

  1. They’re people with complicated lives outside of you/the school. If they don’t immediately respond to you, don’t take it personally.
  2. They’re people who haven’t yet learned total emotional regulation - try to be kind about how grumpy/angry/moody/anxious they often are. Try to react like you would to an adult.
  3. They’re only people. Be kind to them.
  4. They’re full on people. Don’t let them get away with being cruel to you or others. They CAN understand at that age that they hurt others. If they make a rude joke, don’t laugh awkwardly - a good stare can go a long way.

Good luck!

Q

ciaravixen asked:

I got lion.

Which, my first Immideate response was 'Wait, really?' and clicked in and out and in again just to double check just clicking the link alone gave a random animal. Which, yeah ofcourse it does.

So that is neat. But also.

. . . I dont live in a country where Lions are, outside of zoos, and there are No zoos nearby, and it is also a kinda big animal.

I would maybe transform once in awhile for fun, but definetly not alot. And i dont really care for Lions much honestly. They are neat, and strong, sure- but far from my favorite animal.

Fun little survey though ! Even if i dont know what others got for the most part, it is neat to see the results of the polls

A

That’s kinda the point actually! 👀 I know that seems weird, but considering those things (I’m a big animal/ I’m dangerous and could be perceived as a threat/I’m a whale and I’m in a landlocked state/etc) was exactly the sort of results I was hoping to elicit with the randomness of things!

Q

buckysleftarm asked:

Hey! Love the random animal generator poll, I got seal! Which I love an animal and spend time around/thinking about a lot. If it matters for your informal poll, the picture you have for the seal is actually a sea lion. I'd love to turn into a seal, not so much a sea lion 😂

A

😅 Yeah, like I said in another ask, it’s a website I found, not one I made, so it’s a bit…. Shit. I wish there was a better one.

The poll itself is mostly for vibes/to confirm some of my theories so it’s not SUPER important but I feel that the animal generator sucking has been somewhat a source of grief for people. 😂

Q

eldritchsteamhearted asked:

For your random animal survey thing, do you care at all about what animals the survey takers got? And if so is there somewhere specific we could/should send in this information? I got Pig, by the way.

A

I don’t need to know anyone’s individual results, nope! The idea was to get the reactions as survey results. That’s really the important part.

Also, I know that website kinda sucks and doesn’t have a lot of variation where animals are concerned.. I looked around and couldn’t find anything better in terms of variety. :( there was a wikipedia portal with random animal pages but again, only 20 animals to choose from. This one at least had more than 100.

I also had no idea it would get 19k notes overnight while I was sleeping holy shit

I need to run a survey really quick. This isn’t serious, but I need people to cooperate and not cheat for the sake of it because it’ll skew the results.

Imagine you wake up tomorrow and you realize you (and everyone else in the world) can turn into an animal (And back into a human) at will.

Please go to this link to see what animal it will be for you:

(this is random, and yes, you only get one, no redos)

With this in mind, please reply to the following questions as truthfully as possible based on your current situation. (Not an ideal fantasy one.)

How do you feel about this, in general?

Good! I like this animal.

Okay. I’m not thrilled but not disappointed.

Meh. Not the worst.

Not great. I’m pretty disappointed.

Horrible. This is my worst nightmare.

It’s complicated./I’m conflicted.

How often would you turn into this animal?

Pretty often, just for fun.

Pretty often, for a specific task.

Sometimes, just for fun.

Sometimes, to do something a human cannot.

Rarely, but still for fun.

Rarely, only if I absolutely need to.

How open would you be about what animal you are?

I’d tell anyone and everyone!

I’d tell my friends and family.

I’d tell my closer friends and family.

I’d try to keep it mostly secret.

I’d prefer not to tell anyone, ever.

Would you want to get to know other people who also transform into the same/similar animal?

Yeah! I’d join a subreddit or a club for sure!

Probably. I’d like to know what makes us similar.

Eh, only if it comes up in conversation naturally.

Not really. I don’t think it’d connect us in any way.

No. It’s not a good metric for friendship.
