i do want to expand on this a little, though. tommyβs already paid. maybe he asked for one more pitcher and the check, please, sneakily sliding his card over with a wink to the waitress or just after buck went to the bathroom and came back none-the-wiser. buck did want to buy him a beer, but maybe tommy wanted to treat anyway, because he liked the rush he got from buck all goopy just from a kiss. maybe tommy wanted to give buck the full date experience to see how much goopier he could get. maybe the night has been normal up to this point, but then buck comes back and tommy has already paid, and thatβs when it really runs over buck full-tilt that this is a capital-D Date. and tommy is treating. it trips him up. buck, as we know, is the one used to making the grand gestures, used to treating, used to surprising! heβs not used to being the one treated, not publicly like this anyway. the surface level assumption would be that heβs considering his position as a man being treated on a date with another man, but i think heβs simply blindsided after a lifetime of being the grand gestures guy to finally have met his match, someone willing to throw down, meet him beat for beat. (you what? heβs saying with his hands, drinking so he doesnβt say with his mouth, but it was supposed to be me)
