Las instituciones públicas de asistencia han tenido y continúan teniendo, desde la Edad Media, un rol fundamental y activo en la configuración del espacio urbano, social, cultural, económico y político, puesto que son piezas clave para la reproducción de la propia idea de «comunidad» o de «ciudad». Por este motivo, su estudio histórico se ha convertido en un observatorio privilegiado, por la propia naturaleza de estos establecimientos, para capturar realidades imposibles de entrever desde otros escenarios de la ciudad.
Este libro nace a partir de la celebración del V Simposio Internacional «Els Abrils de l’Hospital», cuyo leitmotiv fue «Historia y Etnografía Hospitalarias». El encuentro, que tuvo lugar en la Universitat Rovira i Virgili de Tarragona y en el Institut Pere Mata de Reus en 2016, tuvo por objeto poner en relación a estudiosos e investigadores de diferentes ámbitos y adscripciones para ayudar a visibilizar las potencialidades del estudio histórico de los hospitales haciendo porosos los límites entre la historia, las ciencias sociales y los estudios culturales.

La Marie ensopega i pren mal; per sort és a prop de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. Aquest és el punt de partida d’una història que ens acompanyarà en la visita al Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, testimoni d’un dels hospitals més antics d’Europa.

L’infant Pere d’Aragó i d’Anjou (c. 1305- 1381), entre altres títols i càrrecs, va ser comte de Ribagorça, d’Empúries i de les Muntanyes de Prades. La seua exquisida i polièdrica personalitat li va permetre conrear la poesia i la música, estimar l’art i la cultura catalanes, esdevenir un visionari agosarat, implicar-se de manera activa en la política del país i fundar un hospital monumental que va donar peu a l’actual vila de l’Hospitalet de l’Infant. Les circumstàncies van impedir que arribés a ocupar el tron reial, i probablement per aquesta raó no ha gaudit del lloc que es mereix dins del panorama historiogràfic de l’antiga confederació catalanoaragonesa. Ara, amb motiu del 710è aniversari del seu naixement, surt a la llum aquest volum miscel·lani que pretén reivindicar un dels personatges més fascinants de la Catalunya baixmedieval.

L’estudi històric dels hospitals es pot enfocar des de mirades tan diverses que ha merescut l’atenció d’especialistes de tota mena de disciplines. Antoni Conejo ens endinsa en el polièdric univers arquitectònic d’aquests edificis, la construcció i el disseny dels quals procuraven garantir la bona salut del cos, però també de l’ànima.

The historical study of hospitals can be approached from so many different angles that it has attracted the attention of specialists from all kinds of disciplines. Antoni Conejo takes us into the multifaceted universe of the architecture of hospitals, the construction and design of which tried to guarantee the good health of the body, but also that of the spirit.

'Traça', 'patró' or 'mostra' are some of the words gathered by medieval Catalan documentation when referring to architectural drawings, which, in a visible way, reflect the guidelines of a plan designed by an architect that was usually executed by following the patron’s preferences. The following paper intends to tackle the purpose of these drawings, as also the supports, types and the used nomenclature. This is accomplished by analysing some of the most significant sketches preserved, such as an unpublished drawing performed for the Portal of the Apostles from the ancient cathedral of Lleida (Seu Vella), or a scale plan carried out by the magister Pere Sacoma for the belfry of San Felix of Girona. The paper concludes by surveying the famous 'traça' realized by the Norman master Carlí for the façade of the cathedral of Barcelona.

El uso de la bóveda tabicada en Cataluña se remonta, al menos, a principios del s. XV. Sin embargo, los estudios publicados hasta la fecha son más bien pocos, un hecho sorprendente pues una de las acepciones utilizadas por la historiografía para referirse a este sistema constructivo es, precisamente, volta catalana. Por ello, creemos fundamental reabrir el interés por el tema, fomentar la realización de un necesario, e irrenunciable, inventario de los edificios que lo utilizaron, e incentivar la exhumación de nuevos documentos que nos permita determinar los canales y los protagonistas que facilitaron su introducción y difusión en el Principado.

The use of tile vaults in Catalonia is dated back at least the early XVth century. Nonetheless, the studies published on this issue are rather few at the date. Quite a surprising fact, especially if we think that volta catalana is one of the common terms used by historiography to refer to this kind of constructive system. Therefore, we believe that there is an urgence of focusing on this underestimated topic, encouraging the creation of the still missing and needed catalogue of buildings where it appears, and promoting the research of new documents which allow to determine the channels and the actors at the origin of its introduction and success in Catalonia.

En aquest article s'expliquen els antecedents i els eixos bàsics del Pla Director per a la rehabilitació i restauració integral de l'antic hospital del Coll de Balaguer, a l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, fundat el 1344 per l'infant Pere d'Aragó, fill dels reis Jaume II i Blanca d'Anjou. El seu estat de conservació actual i la problemàtica que envolta les seues restes-runes (ocupades en gran part per habitatges particulars) exigien la redacció i aplicació del citat Pla Director.
