The data generated through the use of these technologies need to be analyzed for forensic purposes when criminal and terrorist activities are involved. In order to deal with the forensic implications of social networks, current research on both digital forensics and social networks need to be incorporated and understood. This will help digital forensics investigators to predict, detect and even prevent any criminal activities in different forms. It will also help researchers to develop new models/techniques in the future. This paper provides literature review of the social network forensics methods, models, and techniques in order to provide an overview to the researchers for their future works as well as the law enforcement investigators for their investigations when crimes are committed in the cyber space. It also provides awareness and defense methods for OSN users in order to protect them against to social attacks.

Deep, regional-scale aquifers in sedimentary basins are possible sites for sequestration, given their ubiquitous nature. In order for CO2 to be stored in aquifers responsibly, it is essential to identify key concepts that need to be considered for potential implementation. Ideally, injected CO2 will migrate through an aquifer from injection wells to remote storage sites, and remain isolated from the atmosphere for a considerable period of time. Fundamental topics of interest in sequestration research have concerned not just scientific and technical aspects, but practical concerns such as the economic feasibility of storage, safety, and the maximum possible amount of CO2 storage globally and for specified regions. Thus, it is crucial to have a robust understanding of this important process not only in theory but in practice too through illustration with solid examples as in this study. A robust commercial optimization and uncertainty software is coupled with a full-physics commercial simulator that models the phenomenon in order to investigate the significance of the major parameters on performance of wells in CO2 sequestration under geochemistry and thermal effects. CO2 injection is done for first 25 years. The injector is shut-in thereafter and the fate of CO2 is modeled for the next 225 years. Chemical equilibrium constants are functions of temperature. Trace gas is used. Molecular diffusion of CO2 in water is modeled. Thermal effects due to injection of CO2 at are modeled. Sensitivity and optimization have been done on major reservoir parameters such as fluid and rock properties and well operational parameters and then significance of each has been illustrated in tornado diagrams. It is observed that a robust approach on handling of uncertainties in reservoir are as important as management of well operational parameters in the scope of reservoir management. Presence of impact of geochemistry and temperature effects have proven to play an important role in the process.

A major weakness of the video format is the inability to quickly access the content of interest. The goal of this work is to automatically partition a lecture video into topical segments which are then presented to the user in a customized video player. The approach taken in this work is to identify topics based on text similarities across the video. The paper investigates the use of screen text extracted by Optical Character Recognition tools, as well as the speech text extracted by Automatic Speech Recognition tools. An automatic text-based segmentation algorithm is developed to identify topic changes and evaluated on a set of twenty-five lecture videos. The key conclusions are as follows. Screen text is a better guide to discovering topic changes than speech text, the effectiveness of speech text can be improved significantly with the correction of speech text, and combining screen text and accurate speech text can improve accuracy. Results are presented from surveys showing a high level of satisfaction among student users of automatically segmented videos. The paper also discusses the limits of automatic segmentation and the reasons why it is far from perfect.

Captions in videos are highly valued by students, especially those with hearing disability and those whose first language is not English. Captioning by automatic speech recognition (ASR) tools is of limited use because of low and variable accuracy. Manual captioning with existing tools is a slow, tedious and expensive task. In this work, we present a web-based crowdsourcing editor to add or correct captions for video lectures. The editor allows a group, e.g., students in a class, to correct the captions for different parts of a video lecture simultaneously. Users can review and correct each other's work. The caption editor has been successfully employed to caption STEM coursework videos. Our findings based on survey results and interviews indicate that this innovative crowdsourcing tool is effective and efficient for captioning lecture videos and has considerable value in educational practice. The caption editor is integrated with Indexed Captioned Searchable (ICS) Videos framework at University of Houston that has been used by dozens of courses and 1000s of students. The ICS Videos framework including the captioning tool is open source software available to educational institutions.
Existing studies on political representation mostly rely on survey data to measure voter ideology... more Existing studies on political representation mostly rely on survey data to measure voter ideology, while politicians' ideology is measured by instruments such as roll call votes, expert surveys, parliamentary issue attention, and agenda priorities. One crucial problem with such approaches is that the tools used to measure the ideology of politicians are not identical to the tools used to measure the ideology of constituencies. The recent surge in the use of social media, particularly Twitter, offers a unique opportunity to directly examine the ideological overlap of political elites and the electorate on a common platform. In this study, we examine over four million Twitter posts from four major Turkish party elites and their supporters between January 2012 and March 2016. After applying several preprocessing procedures such as machine-learning algorithms to clean nonpolitical content from the data, we employ a Wordfish quantitative political text scaling technique to extract the policy positions and compare the party elites' positions to those of other party elites and to those of their supporters. The scaling algorithm successfully places the traditionally rightist parties on one end of the political spectrum and the traditionally leftist parties on the other. The results show that the traditionally more rightist parties, the AKP and MHP, are less representative of their constituency than the traditionally leftist parties, CHP and HDP.
