Our research addressed an increase of unethical practices in professional settings identified in the literature, and this increase coincides with a shift in U.S. culture from principle-based ethics to one trending toward moral relativism. We discovered many programs lack comprehensiveness to deal with the complexities of culture in graduate education. The purpose of this instrumental case study was to explore and develop a conceptual framework for a comprehensive teaching model targeting graduate-level educators, administrators, and educational boards across disciplines. Data were collected over 13 years from a doctoral professional ethics course at a private, faith-based university in South Texas. Using a Design Based Research process following Reeves’ (2006) guidelines, we developed a multi-disciplinary graduate theoretical teaching model for ethics: Comprehensive Professional Ethics Teaching Model (CPET model), grounded in our data analysis and findings. Recommendations include i...

Dr. Dorothy, “Dot,” Ettling was a contemplative practitioner, a spiritual leader, a scholar, and a mentor. She had the phenomenal ability to see the talents of others and enlist their aid in serving marginalized people, whether women walking miles for water in Africa or local mothers needing shelter and job skills. This learning leader recruited (or drafted) colleagues across disciplines to enable communities to build capacities through cross-cultural education and leadership development. This article will examine the work and legacy of Ettling through the lens of Learning as a Way of Leading, focusing on the task of creating community. Implications for practice from this case study of a transformative educator are identified.

This article provides an overview of learning albums, an original instructional method that transforms online photo albums, such as those found on Facebook or Instagram, into collaborative learning units that invite students to locate, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate online information. One teacher educator's experience of integrating learning albums into a pre-service teacher education course further illustrates the method. Included are descriptions of specific activities and a brief reflection from the teacher educator.

The purpose of this project is to address the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) problem facing women in Bukoba, a rural area of Tanzania, and in doing so, gain valuable information for projects of a larger scale in Tanzania and elsewhere. The goal is to educate rural women on the value and utilization of ICT to strengthen their capacity as micro-business women and agents of change in their communities. Through internet access, the women will be able to avail themselves of health and business information, network among themselves to strengthen their cooperative enterprises, and increase the sustainability of their micro-enterprises.

The primary focus of this study was to determine if student
learning outcomes in an undergraduate Statistics course differed
based upon the type of textbook used (e-textbook or
hardcopy). Fifty-six students enrolled in the course were allowed
to choose textbook type. After controlling for student
demographics and academic preparedness, student learning
outcomes for those who used the hardcopy textbook were
significantly higher than for those who used the web-based etextbook.
Though e-textbooks offer many potential benefits
to students, this finding suggests that adoption of e-textbooks
within courses should be guided by the impact on student
learning.

Early leadership studies produced significant research findings that have helped differentiate between leader and follower personal attributes and their consequent behaviors (SEDL, 1992), but little attention was given to the follower’s contribution to the leadership process. This study represents a continuation of research by Henderson, Antelo, & St. Clair on the process model of leadership begun in 2006. Initial research efforts concentrated on leader-held attributes that contribute to the process. Research in work group motivation indicates that individual worker motivation influences performance and productivity; thus, leaders seek to understand what motivates followers to reach extraordinary performance. Employees, however, respond in a variety of ways to their jobs and their organizations’ practices. A paramount task for the leader is to determine what factors impact work motivation. The idea is based on the premise that individual attributes are brought to the workplace by ea...

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss a qualitative study that explored the use of seven social-media venues in advancing the pedagogical reasoning of preservice teachers. For this study, pedagogical reasoning is broken into six phases as defined in Shulman’s (1987) Model of Pedagogical Reasoning and Action (i.e., comprehension, transformation, instruction, evaluation, reflection, and new comprehension). Shulman’s model provided the framework for the research tool – a checklist, titled by the researchers as the Checklist of Social Media and Epistemological Advancement (CSMEA). This tool assisted the researchers with examining social-media venues for opportunities to advance preservice teachers’ skills within the various phases of pedagogical reasoning. The social-media venues examined were Crocodoc Personal, Facebook, Pinterest, Poll Everywhere, Twitter, Weebly, and Youtube. This chapter provides an in-depth description of the study, explores the findings of the study, and discu...

Providing quality support for novice teachers as they enter the profession has been an ongoing concern of educator preparation programs. This article describes the efforts of one teacher preparation program in addressing this matter by utilizing Facebook® to provide sustained support and professional development for its beginning teachers. We begin this article by providing an overview of significant research relevant to induction programs and the current research related to Facebook. A description of the design and implementation of the program's teacher network is included as well as future implementations of the network and the challenges and successes of the project.

This article focused on the ethical problems associated with teaching in a transnational or multicultural environment. Authors offer a review of related literature, as well as extensive global teaching experience, to proffer a model that is designed to allow professional educators to maintain excellence in teaching in the problematic context. Recommendations for research are also offered as part of the conclusions (Henderson).

Chinese ideological and cultural framework within which Chinese and U.S. businesses
negotiate, with the legal requirements of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) that
legislates U.S. business ethics. Specifically, the FCPA views the Chin

government’s recent efforts to curb corruption and corporate malfeasance, and the emergence of a “Confucian firm,” it is evident that the Chinese
research is necessary however, to determine how these developments will affect the global business model, future FCPA legislation, and contemporary business ethics.
