We hosted an event in Rabat focused on cities’ critical role in addressing climate change and its challenges. Experts and leaders discussed innovative financing for Moroccan municipalities, including capital market access and bonds, to deliver sustainable infrastructure. We were honoured by the testimonials from Agadir and the Region of Guelmim-Oued Noun, part of the #EBRDGreenCities Programme, which has provided financial and technical support in their climate efforts. The Global Environment Facility, the European Union, the Netherlands through HIPCA and the Green Climate Fund support this initiative. With Sue Barrett, Antoine Sallé de Chou, Lin O'Grady, Haytham Eissa, Nadra Moumna, Tali Trigg, Sofia Djohar, Nathalie Larrousé, Pippa Koszerek, Niels Dijkstra, Christina Teokari, Mariné B., Maya Almog, Dima Zogheib, Fadoua Chergaoui, Ashleigh Ngow and Giacomo Magnani.

"The entire Bank is behind our operations in Ukraine and we’re very much focused on delivery”, says our MD for Ukraine and Moldova Arvid Tuerkner. Watch him explain what the EBRD is focusing on in the country, and how we're delivering on our commitment to back Ukraine's energy security. We’ve deployed more than €4.6 billion in Ukraine’s wartime economy since 2022. #SupportingUkraine

We’re excited to announce the relaunch of the EBRD’s Risk-Sharing Facility in Azerbaijan. This €15 million facility to AccessBank Azerbaijan is set to empower local SMEs by boosting their access to finance. By sharing the risk on loans, we’re enabling AccessBank Azerbaijan to reach even more businesses, including those that would not otherwise have access to EBRD financing. Through supporting entrepreneurship, we’re helping diversify Azerbaijan’s economy. https://lnkd.in/dZzUm9eW W/ Elisabetta Falcetti Alkis Drakinos

Pleased to be financing expansion of renewables capacity in Türkiye! We're providing a loan of US$ 60 million to Türkiye’s Borusan EnBW Enerji to finance the development and construction of 116 MW of onshore wind-energy capacity in Türkiye. Addressing climate change remains a significant goal for Türkiye, which has set itself a net-zero target of 2053. To reach net zero, Türkiye needs around US$ 10 billion of financing per year through 2030, including major strides in the renewables sector. Borusan EnBW Enerji is one of the leading energy firms in the country, with a portfolio predominantly focused on onshore wind energy. https://lnkd.in/dsjbXjip

We are proud of our Qairokkum HPP climate-resilient rehabilitation project, for which the EBRD organised a US$ 196 million financing package. The funds are helping to modernise this 60 year-old hydropower plant which provides electricity to 500,000 people. The financing package consists of a US$ 88 million EBRD loan, a US$ 37 million European Investment Bank (EIB) loan, a US$ 50 million Green Climate Fund loan and grant and a US$ 21 million Climate Investment Funds loan and grant to the state-owned power utility Barki Tojik. Rehabilitation measures include concrete dam works and the installation of hydraulic steel components, turbines and electromechanical equipment for the six hydropower units. Upon completion, the plant’s installed capacity will increase from 126 MW to 174 MW. The upgrade will introduce innovative climate resilience measures, enabling the plant to cope with the expected impact of climate change on the country’s hydrological systems.

Today at Astana Finance Days, the EBRD highlighted the importance of the Trans-Caspian Corridor in shaping sustainable infrastructure for Central Asia. Acting MD for Central Asia Huseyin Ozhan emphasized the corridor’s potential to strengthen transport links between East and West, with a required investment of €18.5 billion. Mr. Özhan pointed out that so-called soft connectivity measures such as digitalisation of customs and border crossing procedures, introduction of modern tariff methodologies and harmonisation of relevant pieces of legislation should be the top priority.    From modernising container terminals to improving railways, the Trans-Caspian Corridor can become a key route for global trade.
