Today is National Freelancers Day, so we’d like to take the opportunity to celebrate the #ITICommunity of dedicated and hardworking freelance translators and interpreters. Freelancing takes courage, commitment, self-motivation and an entrepreneurial spirit. As freelancers, ITI members juggle multiple clients, projects and deadlines and the complexities of running their own small business. The life of a freelance linguist is challenging but also incredibly rewarding. Every day our members work to empower global conversations by bridging linguistic and cultural differences. So, to all freelance translators and interpreters, we applaud you. Thank you for upholding the highest standards and for prioritising quality, responsibility and accuracy above speed to create meaningful communication between people and cultures. We are honoured to represent such an amazing community of freelance language professionals. #NationalFreelanceDay #Freelancing #SlowTranslation

Working as a #freelancer can sometimes be isolating, so it's no surprise that our Geographical, Language, Subject and Support networks are greatly appreciated. They offer a community of like-minded individuals, a sense of belonging, plus social, training and #networking opportunities. Just one of the many benefits of #ITIMembership. https://bit.ly/2M7SR1t #xl8 #translation #interpreting #1nt

If you are hiring the services of a translator or interpreter, it's probably because you don't speak the language. But if you don't speak the language how can you determine the quality of their work? It's a dilemma! 🤔 By using a Qualified Member of The Institute of Translation and Interpreting, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are working with a trusted professional who has been independently assessed and works to the highest standards. 🥇They have demonstrated a high level of language proficiency in their chosen discipline, whether #translation or #interpreting, and adhere to a strict code of conduct. 🔍You can find a qualified, professional translator or interpreter in the ITI Directory: https://bit.ly/312zpZR #hireaprofessional #ChooseMITI #xl8 #1nt

Outsourcing since 2011 has led to lower pay and the use of unqualified interpreters, resulting in misinformed pleas, subsequent appeals due to inadequate representation and even wrongful convictions or acquittals. Improving working conditions, fair compensation, and professional respect for interpreters are essential to maintain justice and uphold the values of a civilized society. At ITI we will continue to advocate for this through our membership of Professional Interpreters for Justice. https://lnkd.in/egQ2jE2f

🌟Financial Stability and Ethical Payment Practices - An ITI Discussion Last autumn we launched an initiative with Dr Joseph Lambert to consider the potential to create an ethical framework for ITI members. We identified several key topics that deserve deeper exploration and are now pleased to announce a new series of Coffee House sessions to discuss them. ☕ Inspired by the 18th-century coffee houses where the Enlightenment was born, the aim is to foster informal yet insightful conversations and debate. We will be kicking off on 27th June with a discussion on Financial Stability and Ethical Payment Practices with Anja Jones. Register for this free event, and for more details on the full series of Coffee House Discussions ▶ https://lnkd.in/e5KTrTBP #Ethics #EthicalPaymentPractices #ITICommunity

A short but powerful video that really hits home. Yes, interpreting for parents may be fun at first, but it can quickly become overwhelming, inappropriate and deeply damaging. https://lnkd.in/ebKpjDQN via NextShark #interpreting
