Did this really happen? I’m heading home on the train after a whirlwind visit to Birmingham, where I only went and picked up an award ⭐️ It’s official - the Association of Translation Companies has picked me as their Linguist of the Year 2024! It was an absolute - and completely unexpected - honour to accept this award and the invitation to attend the awards ceremony last night. I had so much fun meeting people, drinking celebratory fizz and dancing the Macarena. Thank you to Raisa McNab and the ATC for giving me this recognition as a linguist. I can’t tell you how much this means to me. It’s so important that you have this category in the Language Industry Awards and I’m beyond proud to be this year’s winner. Thank you to Anikó Pető-Mordovski for presenting me with the gorgeous wooden award on behalf of Women in Localization - United Kingdom, who partnered with the ATC for this category. Congratulations to all the other companies, teams and individuals that picked up an award last night. And thank you all for sharing your evening with me 🥂 What a way to end the week 🩷 #AwardWinner #LinguistOfTheYear #Translation

If you are a translation professional and like the idea of knowledge sharing but without the rigidity of a formal conference, sign up for the Utrecht Unconference. Organised by ITI's Dutch Network and SENSE the Society.
Helping your business reach a global market by breaking language barriers | Translator of Dutch, German, French and Spanish into English | Board member of ITI | Certified in #Cybersecurity
The unconference is coming to Utrecht! Jenny Zonneveld BA, MITI and I will be running the Utrecht Unconference on Saturday 9 November at a stunning location on the city's Oudegracht (old canal) – just 45 mins away from Amsterdam. You might be familiar with the Cardiff Translation Unconference. We get 60 professional linguists together and give you an opportunity to talk to each other🗣️... about anything related to your practice. Whether you've got a question, want advice on an ethical dilemma or are looking to share your insights or expertise, anything goes. Facilitators will be on hand to ensure the discussion goes smoothly and everyone who wants to contribute can. And an unconference is democratic. There's no programme decided in advance. Each attendee proposes one topic beforehand and then everyone votes on what to discuss on the day. No presenting required, and definitely no PowerPoint ❌ There's three sessions at any one time for you to choose from and the event will take place primarily in English, so no problem if you don't speak Dutch! 🌷 What is an unconference? ✅All about harnessing collective knowledge and experience ✅A place for discussion and mutual learning ✅Engaging and collaborative What is an unconference not? ❌Putting any one person on a stage ❌A place for presentations ❌Sitting still for 45 minutes at a time So, if you're a language professional and like the idea of the knowledge sharing you get from a traditional conference but without the formality and rigidity, sign up now! More info and registration link in the comments 👇 The Utrecht Unconference would not be possible without the support of SENSE the Society and Institute of Translation and Interpreting's Dutch network.
