Living Wage Foundation
Non-profit Organizations
The Living Wage is an independent movement of employers who believe a fair day’s work should mean a fair day's pay.
About us
The Living Wage Foundation is the organisation at the heart of the Living Wage movement in the UK. The Living Wage Foundation does three things: Accreditation: We offer accreditation to employers that pay the living wage, or those committed to an agreed timetable of implementation, by awarding the ‘Living Wage Employer’ mark. Intelligence: We provide advice and support to employers implementing the Living Wage including best practice guides; case studies from leading employers; model procurement frameworks; access to specialist legal and HR advice. Influence: We provide a forum for leading employers to publicly back the Living Wage. We work with six Principal Partners, Trust for London, KPMG, Linklaters, Resolution Foundation, Save the Children and Queen Mary University of London, who bring financial and strategic support to the work.

Our Campaign Manager Lianna Etkind reflects on why the Living Wage Funder scheme is so necessary to improve wages for those in the third sector. "Nearly a decade ago, a group of funders met to discuss tackling in-work poverty in the charity sector. They were painfully aware that the charities they funded worked hard to tackle poverty, inequality, and injustice. Yet some of these charities were not paying their staff enough to live on, thereby perpetuating the very problems they set out to fix. With one hand, they did wonderful work to alleviate disadvantage; to tackle racial and gender inequalities; to support people through financial hardship. With the other, they caused these problems through the low wages they paid. Those foundations recognised that mere exhortation would not fix the problem. Charities, by and large, are led by values-driven people. It was not, generally, stinginess that meant that so many charity workers were struggling to cover their bills. Rather, the problem lay in the financial pressures and funding constraints charities were facing". Great to be at #LabourConference24 to discuss how we build better work for those on low incomes. Of course it all begins with a real Living Wage, as well as providing secure working hours and pensions. Our Director Katherine Chapman joins panellists Andy Burnham, Kate Bell Trades Union Congress (The TUC), Heather Stewart The Guardian, and Gavin Kelly from the Resolution Foundation. Our movement of over 15,000 employers are raising the bar for what good work looks like in the UK. By becoming accredited Living Wage Employers, or signing up to our Living Hours and Living Pension standards - they make sure their employees can afford to live now and in the future. I’ve been involved with the Living Wage Foundation - and particularly with the Recognised Service Providers - for almost 15 years now and my passion for supporting its values and objectives has never been stronger! 👊 What really reinforces the fact that it is absolutely the right thing to do, is when our industry leaders get behind the campaign and lend their voice (and far reaching editorial space) to spreading the word to a huge audience. 📢 So thank you to The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) for allowing myself and fellow Co-chair Dominic Ponniah to use your platform to shout out our crucial message! 🙏👏👏 There has never been a better time to join us so please visit the website www.livingwage.org.uk or reach out to me or Dominic directly. 5 million hard working colleagues need you!

Here at TfGM, we’ve been committed to paying all colleagues the “Real Living Wage” for some time. And we’re pleased to say that this has now been officially recognised with an accreditation from the Real Living Wage Foundation. The Real Living Wage is higher than the government’s minimum, or National Living Wage, and is an independently calculated hourly rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living. It is calculated each year and is announced by the Living Wage Foundation as part of Living Wage Week each autumn. It is currently £12 in the UK (with a higher rate of £13.15 for London). This commitment applies to not only directly employed colleagues but also to our third party contracted colleagues (such as cleaners). TfGM has a plan in place and is committed to ensuring we pay all our third party contracted staff the real Living Wage. You can find out more about the Living Wage Foundation at their website: www.livingwage.org.uk.
