"The relevance of safeguarding to CSOs has been one of the questions I encounter most of the time I support CSOs. The concept of safeguarding is still taken as an extra item in most institutions. Sometimes it is seen as a programme complication." In his blog post, Samwel Maphie, with over nine years of expertise in humanitarian aid, stresses the importance of localising safeguarding policies for greater impact. While international guidelines are useful, adapting them to fit local contexts ensures that CSOs embrace safeguarding as a practice, not merely a compliance task, and truly protect vulnerable groups.
