Aiming to help improve lives of children & young adults with severe learning difficulty & associated physical disability

About us

The Elifar Foundation is a small charity which helps to improve the lives of children and young adults with severe learning difficulty and associated physical disability. We provide grants for a variety of items including electronic wheelchairs, specialised seating, eating aids, special beds and trikes, hoists, communication devices, sensory equipment and specialist holidays. The intense challenge of daily management at home usually means that a grant will enhance life for the rest of the family too. A large number of people with severe neurological disability are children and young adults; so the majority of the applications received by the charity are on behalf of the young. The trustees are all busy professional people and include a parent of two severely disabled children. Costs are kept to a minimum and the charity is run almost entirely by volunteers. The Elifar Foundation relies entirely on independent donations and fundraising and enjoys the support of many individuals and companies, particularly within the UK retail property industry. Take a look at the types of grant we make and at the range of individuals and organisations who work hard to raise funds to make our grants possible.

Meet Kai ⭐   Elifar funded this all-terrain special needs buggy for Kai, a 5-year-old with a rare and terminal genetic metabolic disorder leading to seizures and severe physical and intellectual disabilities. The buggy has off-road capabilities whilst providing good posture support.  Kai’s family love the outdoors and having the buggy means Kai can visit fields and woodland areas giving him the opportunity to experience varied environments and develop his sensory learning.

Meet Ethan ⭐ Elifar, alongside another charity, helped to fund a Tomcat Fizz trike for 11 year old Ethan. He had outgrown his existing trike and urgently needed a replacement. Ethan faces ongoing challenging learning and sensory needs including a diagnosis of severe complex autism which impacts on his mobility. Trikes make a huge difference in many ways, specifically providing a calming influence through the peddling action for sensory needs and by regulating digestion and bowel movements and keeping associated pain at bay. It was identified that an adult trike would be the best choice to serve Ethan for many years and to enable him to continue exploring his environment and enjoying time with the family.

Meet Sammy & Wilson ⭐⭐ Elifar had the great pleasure of contributing funds to brothers Sammy and Wilson for new Sunrise Medical Q700 power chairs. These amazing young men cope with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) a rare genetic neuromuscular condition and were facing extremely difficult and challenging circumstances. Replacement chairs were urgently needed, and Wheelchair Services had indicated a wait of around 1 year to even consider their cases. Both existing chairs were cracking and falling apart, to the point where Sammy fell out of his and had to be hospitalised for 2 weeks having broken his femur. Finally, after a long struggle all the funding came together and we are very happy to advise that both now have their incredible new ‘state of the art’ chairs. They retain their incredible independence, quality of life and busy social schedules whilst being extra safe and supported and without the worry of repair costs and continual stress and upheaval. Sammy runs an SQL database system and Wilson is at the University of Liverpool doing his Master’s Degree in Data Science and AI Technology.
