Australian Silica Quartz (ASQ) has kicked off an exploration drilling program at its Quartz Hill project in Queensland. This initiative aims to establish a metallurgical-grade silicon resource to feed Quinbrook’s proposed AUD 7.8 billion ($5.22 billion) polysilicon plant near Townsville. Key Highlights: 1️⃣ Polysilicon Manufacturing: Quinbrook plans to build a polysilicon facility at the Lansdown eco-industrial precinct, using locally sourced silica quartz for solar panels and battery technology. 2️⃣ Green Energy: A large-scale solar and battery storage project is also planned to power the facility, marking a significant step toward sustainable manufacturing. 3️⃣ Exploration Program: ASQ’s drilling at Quartz Hill aims to identify at least 10 million tons of quartz, supported by a AUD 1 million investment from Quinbrook subsidiary Private Energy Partners (PEP). 4️⃣ Local Impact: The project promises to create one of Australia’s first integrated mine-to-manufacturing polysilicon supply chains, positioning Townsville at the heart of a new global market. This venture is set to transform Townsville into a central hub for solar and battery energy generation, paving the way for a sustainable future. 🌞🔋 https://lnkd.in/d2eqyEfP pv magazine Australia #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Sustainability
