We are delighted to have our research project, 'Treatment options for storm overflows', featured in the autumn edition of the Institute of Water Magazine🍂 While storm overflows have been considered a pragmatic and affordable means of draining towns and cities, over the last decade, a growing population combined with Victorian infrastructure and an increase in extreme weather events has put more pressure on sewer systems, increasing the frequency of discharges. For this project, we explored what options, conventional or innovative, can be employed to tackle storm overflows as well as their associated costs. The resulting report aims to support the water sector in developing an effective storm overflow strategy. You can have a read of the project summary in IOW's Magazine here: https://lnkd.in/dMefAADY Or, to read the report in full, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/ducdJcsz Isle Utilities Ken Shapland Karyn Georges Luiza Piekarniak Stephen Tan #stormoverflows #wastewater #sewerage

New UKWIR report💧 The costs, carbon and wider delivery complexities of retrofitting Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are generally poorly understood and sensitive to assumptions and the local context. As a result, this poses a risk for companies when committing to and delivering investment programmes. Our latest report, 'Improved understanding of retrofit SuDS whole life cost, carbon and delivery to enable deployment', aims to provide greater confidence to companies in understanding the performance of proposed SuDS, as well as providing a sound evidence base of costs, carbon and benefits.
