It’s time. The 1.5 degree scenario is not a warning, so at this year’s #ClimateWeekNYC it’s time to make the crucial decisions and take the action we need to start taking. Today, our team is at the SCALE Climate Week Action Dialogue alongside governors, mayors, civil society, private sector, and many more that are committed to enhancing and supporting subnational climate ambition. The role of the private sector is also a key discussion point at today’s events, and what business should be doing right now to cut carbon. One of the most successful drivers of emissions reduction from buildings is policy. So we are also spotlighting the role that businesses can play in collaborative advocacy efforts to increase policy ambition such as those led by Green Building Councils. Later in the week, our Director of Impact Dr Stephen Richardson will also be exploring the ways to encourage private finance alongside the Bankers4NetZero and Race to Zero. Across the week, our team is attending key #builtenvironment events, convened by several of WorldGBC’s partners: Breakthrough Agenda, Carrier, Climate Group, Grimshaw, Laudes Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Saint-Gobain, We Mean Business Coalition, World Economic Forum (Green Building Consortium and Circularity Lighthouse), Holcim, Heidelberg Materials, Signify, Arup, C40 Cities and Urban Partners, amongst others. We must act now to ensure that business leaders and governments are taking the right steps to meet our 2030 global climate goals. Do you find it challenging to navigate the range of voluntary ESG schemes? Companies and financial institutions across the globe have used green building certification to verify the sustainability credentials of projects for decades. However, there are inconsistencies in the application of metrics and standards, and ESG schemes are being used differently by different groups of actors. In the latest factsheet in the World Green Building Council #SustainableFinance series, we explore entity and asset-level voluntary schemes for energy and emissions in the global real estate sector. Read the factsheet to: ✅ compare the difference between entity and asset-level schemes, and ✅ explore the key international voluntary ESG schemes in real estate. With increasing financial and non-financial disclosure regulations, as well as a host of climate commitments from corporate and financial actors, see our factsheet to understand how we can use ESG schemes to benchmark, report and verify our progress, and create a resilient and decarbonised future for the built environment. https://lnkd.in/exQPmykV While you’re there, also check out our factsheets on EU Taxonomy, including Nearly Zero Energy Buildings, Major renovations and Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). #BuildingTheTransition #ClimateWeekNYC Sweden Green Building Council, SBC GREECE (Sustainable Building Council Greece) UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) U.S. Green Building Council Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC)

🌆 It’s #ClimateWeekNYC! As the theme of the week lays out, it’s time. We need to step up and speed up our climate action because incremental change is no longer enough. We need a global response that recognises our interconnectedness. This week, Cristina Gamboa, Dr Stephen Richardson and Audrey Nugent are joining business leaders, policymakers, and partner advocates at #ClimateWeekNYC, held in parallel with the United Nations General Assembly and The Summit of the Future. Together, they will explore how the building and construction sector is a critical solution in the #climatechange challenge and how we can collectively scale up solutions to meet key 2030 #decarbonisation and sustainability milestones. Our team will be attending key #builtenvironment events, convened by several of WorldGBC’s partners: Breakthrough Agenda, Carrier, Climate Group, Laudes Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Saint-Gobain, We Mean Business Coalition, World Economic Forum (Green Building Consortium and Circularity Lighthouse), Holcim, Heidelberg Materials, Signify, Arup, C40 Cities and Urban Partners, amongst others. With more than 600 events and activities taking place over the week, and audiences joining from around the globe, we’re looking forward to seeing how we will continue to step up to the climate challenge. Yes! This is so great to see! Ramboll are a pioneer in making whole life carbon data of buildings widely accessible. This is so important for the sector’s transition to zero emissions. Huge kudos and thanks to the team at Ramboll for taking this bold step! Lars Ostenfeld Riemann, Rikke Bjerregaard Orry, Paul Astle and no doubt many others. #ProudToPartner World Green Building Council #BuildingTheTransition
Do you want to get some insight into the carbon performance of buildings? Next week I'll be at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) international conference and I'll be talking about the new version of Ramboll's #CO2mpare tool, our global carbon assessment viewer. Our latest version will be live next week and will include: 🔹 More than 200 carbon assessments from 7 countries! 🔹 12 scope combinations, including A, B and C lifecycle modules 🔹 Interactive slicers and toggles to unpack that data 🔹 A scope indication graphic to improve transparency in comparisons 🔹 A building height and carbon plot 🔹 Material efficiency indicators including Concrete Usage Index - which my colleagues don't think is that interesting - prove them wrong next week! It is a really powerful tool that has already raised some interesting questions for us and I'm sure you'll find new insights too. You can see the huge difference in new build versus renovation carbon in the example below. The team have worked incredibly hard: Andreas Sørensen, Laurence Gibbons, Mikaela Psarra, Lucas van Laack, Rikke Bjerregaard Orry, Pradeepkumar reddy - I owe them all lots of drinks! Looking forward to providing an overview next week at my talk, more information on that can be found in this post: https://lnkd.in/eUiHuf9z You can access the current version here: www.ramboll.com/co2mpare This will link will be refreshed next week so make sure you check back. I'll be sharing plenty of insights here too! #letsclosethegap #decarbonisation #carbonassessment #datatransparency

I live in a picturesque river valley in the southern Black Forest area of Germany. It's very beautiful. But you may recall that 2021, another picturesque valley in Germany - the Ahr Valley - was hit by a catastrophic flood that killed 135 people. I think about this often as I walk along our river or when - like yesterday - it rains torrentially for hours. Did you know that for the fourth consecutive year, global insured catastrophe losses have exceeded $100 billion. The trend is continuing this year and losses have already reached $62 billion. So it's very timely that this World Green Building Week, one of the three steps we're highlighting for a sustainable built environment is #Adapt. But what does that mean in practice? I asked myself this question and spoke to some experts for advice and here are four key things to consider if you think your property could also be affected by flooding: 1. Where could flood water come from? It's not just rivers bursting their banks - heavy rain alone can cause flash flooding, even away from rivers. This may be surface water or it could be that rains overwhelm the drains and then the water can back up through your sanitary fixtures. It's worth considering all of these possible scenarios as you ask yourself the next questions. Your local authority may have done some of this analysis for you - search their website for flood risk assessment information. 2. Are you fully insured? Friends in our village found out the hard way that they weren't insured against heavy rain (but would have been insured against river flooding). Sadly it was the former that caused their cellar to flood in 2022. Their insurance paid nothing. Check your terms and make sure you're fully covered! 3. Can you keep the water out? If a flood came - where would water first breach your home? Cellars are obviously the most vulnerable point, followed by ground floor vents, doors and windows. Walk round your house and check. Could you improve the sealing on these ingress points? Forget sandbags - you usually can't build a sandbag wall fast enough. But there are products that can be installed quickly or will even deploy automatically. 4. Can you cut your losses? Prevention can be expensive - especially in large, older properties - and you can't seal up your entire home. It's worth inventorying your cellar and ground floor to see what you wouldn't want or couldn't afford to lose. Important documents, valuables... just move them to higher rooms! Do you have any other tips to share to protect your home from #Flooding? 🌆 Being future-ready will mitigate the financial impacts of our changing times, and the good news is it also has the potential to create 30 million jobs!
